I am used to using the "Super MicroWeave setting in the Epson 7600 driver to get rid of horizontal (print head direction) banding. When using QTR this control is not available. Does anyone have an alternate work around to accomplish the same results? Chris

Hi Chris, You can adjust the intensity of the micro-weave manually via the printer's control panel. It's under SelecType > Paper Config > Print Adj. The default is something like 5 but I keep mine at the max, which is 9. Thanks Mark. I had looked into this on a previous occasion, with little luck, and was going to revisit it this morning more carefully. I am curious if you have found any technical information on what these these settings actually do? I didn't notice any linear progression from 1 to 9, in fact it seemed sort of random. What have your observations been in this regard? This banding seems to depend on the file: some print perfectly smooth, some very banded; and some values smooth, some banded in the same print! (It doesn't seem to be a paper feed problem. ) Chris --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, "Mark McCarvill" <espresso_forte@...> wrote:

Hey Chris, The 7600 user guide just says that Print Adj "adjusts the intensity of the micro weave pattern; improves quality but lowers printing speed." I haven't read anything more technical than that. I didn't do a thorough test of print quality at 1 thru 9, so I don't have results to compare to yours. I was having banding problems myself a while ago and just increased Print Adj to 9, which reduced (but didn't eliminate) banding. I haven't noticed a drop in printing speed but in any case I'd always choose quality over speed (for final prints anyway). The other adjustments which together eliminated banding for me: - putting suction on Low (doesn't make sense since I'm using average to thick paper, but it helped) - setting PFA to +.20 (minor but noticeable improvement) - setting the shadow ink limit to 20 (most of my banding was in the 70-100 levels of the test gradient) This essentially eliminated banding at 720 dpi. Then to make the prints even smoother, I print at 1440. Instead of testing on actual prints, I'd recommend testing using a gradient, to pinpoint where banding occurs. Then after you tune out banding in the gradient, all your picture files should print fine. Hope this helps, Mark --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, "cwb1946" <cb@...> wrote: > > Thanks Mark. > I had looked into this on a previous occasion, with little luck, and was going to revisit it > this morning more carefully. The front panel adjustments are for paper feed issues. For the weave algorithm you can have 4 pass or 8 pass. In QTR the Resolution selection allows 1440dpi (4 pass) or 1440super (8 pass). It's the same as the Epson driver "super microweave". Roy
