QTR Support for Intel-Based Macs

QTR Support for Intel-Based Macs

2007-08-19 by Eddie Gilbert

Hi Folks,

I apologize if this post seems a little behind the curve. I started using QTR with v2.3.1,
spent a lot of time creating custom profiles, and have been very happy to stick there and
get great results for some time now.

Until yesterday.

I moved my primary imaging system from a PowerPC-based G5 to an Intel-based Mac Pro.
Now I cannot access the QTR pane in the Mac OS X (10.4.10, fully up-to-date) print dialog.
I'm dead. (Or I need to relegate my old machine to nothing but a life support printing
system...)

I have scrubbed through the ReadMe files for all versions of QTR since 2.3.1 on the QTR
web site, and also looked through the most recent version of the Tutorial PDF that is there,
and I see nothing about QTR being updated in any version since 2.3.1 to support Intel-
based Mac OS X platforms (or more recent versions of the Mac OS Print dialog).

Yet, I can clearly see from some of the most recent posts that some of you are using QTR
with Mac Pro machines.

Can someone please tell me what version of QTR introduced support for Intel Macs? I know
I should probably upgrade to the current version if I am going to upgrade at all, but I do
have one very real concern, and that is that I would very much prefer to keep my existing
curve data and custom ICC profiles -- I spent a great deal of time and effort getting these
right, and I really do not want to throw that work away and start over from scratch. If I can
upgrade to an available version that allows me to keep my 2.3.1-based curves & ICC
profiles, and gain full function of QTR on the Mac Pro 10.4.10 platform, that would be
ideal.

Thanks in advance,
/eddie

PS: Sorry, I didn't think to say in my original posting that QTR 2.3.1 had been working
perfectly for me even on Mac OS X 10.4.10 on my PowerPC-based system, and my new Intel-
based system was built to mirror my PowerPC-based system's configuration. This is why my
question indicates that I believe my problem lies in QTR 2.3.1 not working properly on the
Intel 10.4.10 platform.

I will also go on to say that QTR 2.3.1 installed on the Intel machine just fine and the install
script completed just fine. It's just that the Print dialog will not allow access to the QTR pane.
My Epson 7600 UC printer driver suffered the same fate, but fortunately Epson had an
updated printer driver available specifically for Intel Macs that fixed the problem for the
printer, and so I am assuming something similar needs to occur for QTR.

Thanks again,
/eddie

QTR 2.4.2 Prints a Black Image

2007-08-19 by Mike Kirwan

I have been experimenting with Arcsoft panoramic stitching software and have
run into a problem where QTR just prints a black rectangle. I create the
panoramic image, save as a TIFF file, open in Photoshop and convert to
grayscale (making sure there are no layers etc). Adjust the image, size and
sharpen and save as a new TIFF file. Print from Photoshop to an Epson R1800
works OK, output from QTR a black box the size of the image.

I am using version 2.4.2 of QTR and really hoping to get this to work as I
do not like the B&W output using the Epson drivers. Any thoughts or helpful
tips?

Thanks

Mike

This sort of problem is ususaly due to TIFF format problems. Check for
things like compression and alpha channels. Save the file in as simple a
format as possible.

I had a similar issue and if I remember correctly it was the .tif
interleave that caused the problem. The save dialog box offers
RRRGGGBBB or RGBRGBRGB. Using the latter solved the problem. At least
that is a starting point.
