I was just about to make an adjustment to a K7 curve and noticed that the QUAD files are in the QuadTone directory but there are no corresponding ICC files in the Profiles directory. Why ??? ----------------------------------------------------- Brian Corll [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

If you open a quad file up using any text editor, you will see that it is just a string of numbers that represent how much of each ink is need for each 255 gray tone. You can use the QTR-Create-ICC programs located in the One-Eye folder (if you are on Windows) to create an ICC that can be used for printing from any printing application that uses ICCs. jeff

Whoops - I meant there are no corresponding .qidf files... ----------------------------------------------------- Brian Corll

Brian, I use a house-built profiling application to make those 256 point curves rather than use the QTR tools. At the end I compile them in such a way that QTR can use the data. But I never have anything that remotely resembles the .qdif file. I can't even make one. Its a different process altogether. I can make custom QTR profiles for a fee ($99), but the ones I provide in QTR are usually very accurate on nearly every printer. If you think your printer is not producing the best standard, I would remind you to NOT follow the QTR workflow of the QTR manual that accompanies the download. We have a totally different workflow documented in our own manual, because the K7 profiles are not compatible with a conventional QTR curve. Using workflow designed for QTR made curves will not work with Piezography made K7 curves for QTR. I hope that makes sense. The changes you may need to make to your workflow would not be major, but could be significant if you are not doing them now. You can download my Mac and a PC manual here: http://shopping.netsuite.com/s.nl/c.362672/sc.24/category.6608/.f If you think you need a profile for your individual printer, please contact me off list. regards, Jon Cone Piezography InkjetMall --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, "Brian Corll" <briancorll@...> wrote: > > Whoops - I meant there are no corresponding .qidf files... > > > > ----------------------------------------------------- > > Brian Corll > > > > From: QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com [mailto:QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com] On > Behalf Of Jeff Randall > Sent: Thursday, December 04, 2008 5:21 PM > To: QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com > Subject: [QuadtoneRIP] Re: No ICC Files for K7 ?? > > > > --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com <mailto:QuadtoneRIP%40yahoogroups.com> ,

If you are using Mac, do you drop the .quad file into the" Create ICC" program? I should be a QTR expert and be able to answer this, but I have my own way of making K7 work with QTR and that may not work for regular QTR users. What we do is print out the 26 step test file through a specific K7 curve in QTR for the specific paper, measure this with a spectrophotometer, and take the resultant output text file of Lab values and drop that onto Create ICC. The purpose however, of doing this is to create a SoftProof profile. We never print with the ICCs. Maybe this tidbit helps or further confuses... Jon, I've been following the workflow you describe in your file. I'm currently using a "clearance" set of Sepia/Neutral cartridges (Epson 2200) that I got from you last year. I'm getting more muddy tones than I want to see, which is why I wanted to tweak the curves, set ink limits, density, etc. Without the .qidf files I can't do that. Any suggestions as to what I could do short of creating custom profiles ? Once this ink is gone I'll move on to another set (maybe the "Special Edition") and start buying bulk, but I'm one who always wants to solve a problem so I'm trying to iron out the split-tone problems I'm having. ----------------------------------------------------- Brian Corll [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Actually, if you can print out the calibration targert and measure the (L value) of each of the 60% patches and email me with those, I can tell you right away if its a bad cart. That would be rare, but it could be possible. If the measurements are correct, and you are using the correct profile (K7-2880-HanPhotoRag) by example for Photo Rag, and are printing at 2880 and NOT touching the curve blending, gamma and ink limit - then I would say that that is weird! Should be working. The next step would be for me to measure a 21 step gradation to see if its linear at a 2.2 Gamma which is what my profiler does. You should be linear in relation to a Gamma of 2.2 And SPLITTONE uses the same K7 profile as Special Edition. So we do want to figure out what is happening... Can you also work directly with my techsupport staff? techsupport (at) inkjetmall (dot) com or phone in directly on Monday at (802) 439-3127 those tests are going to be necessary if the workflow is correct. we can get you fresh ink if you got a bum cart.
