downloading/Instaling QuadtoneRip

2011-02-28 by janet

I've bought it - have accessed the "download" pg. I don't see the "Install-QTR-#.#.#. package to click on. I've printed the 19 pg tutorial but can't get past the 1st pg. if I can't figure out the download procedure. I'm using a Mac Snow Leopard so that piece is good to go....Now how do I get it to load?

Go to Applications, QuadtoneRIP, Profiles, open the folder for your
printer model number, click on Install(your printer number).command

Go to System Preferences, Print & Fax, you should see a new installed
printer called Quad(your printer number). Choose this printer in the
print dialogue.

Thanks Doug, I finally figured it out,, tried to print some B&W images and
they were terrible: dark, tiny vertical stripes, etc. I'm wondering what
I can do to get the print I'm expecting after having bought this product...
Any thoughts?

Janet, sounds like the vertical stripes could be banding. Try a head
cleaning and then a nozzle check to see that all nozzles are working
properly and not clogged.

Thanks Doug, I'll check it - nozzle etc. However, it also could be that
I've set it up wrong by putting in an incorrect printer profile - " K7" and
it should be UC. SO, how do I remedy that?
Also, that was the only folder I installed...the printer profile - and I'm
thinking there is something important I'm missing here as there are many
more pages in the Tutorial! The Tutorial stops at Leopard and my system
is Snow Leopard - is that important.
Perhaps my next step (after checking nozzles and head cleaning) might be to
go to the "DiagnosticScript.command site and send you that info....yes?

When in QTR printer settings, you need to choose the Curve that
matches your Ink Set, such as UC; choose the media that matches what
paper you are printing on, and then choose the correct Black Ink,
either Matte or Photo. If you do this, think you'll get a nice print

Re: [QuadtoneRIP] downloading/Instaling QuadtoneRip

2011-03-01 by Janet Reider

Hello Doug,

I performed a nozzle check as well as a cleaning and the print-out is
perfect.

I was able to replace the incorrect printer profile with the correct one and
made a test print. That print has tiny vertical stripes and is also
dark...not as dark as the 1st test yesterday but not acceptable. SO - here
is the copy/paste from DiagnosticScript. You'll see a "looking for
printer..." that's because I started the printing not knowing my printer
was off....
Let me know what I can do as I"m anxious to begin printing some B&W images
- that do not have green or purple casts..

Thanks,
Janet Reider

Should i have installed any more than the printer profile? Curves, for
example?
Well you'll see what I've got when you look at the Diagnostic Script -

Can you look at the "DaignosticScript.command that i have copied and pasted
and try to help me rectify this situation. The prints are no longer striped
but extraordinarily dark w/o any gradations...DARK!
Please get back to me - or, refund by $50.00
 Thank you.

Janet,

I have read these threads, and I have not been able to find which printer and inks you are using. With QTR it is essentail you match the curves/profiles you use with the correct printer and ink set. I am not familiar with the vegaries of the various Mac OS systems. So I cannot help you there. But let us start with the basics. What printer, which inks?

Hope things start working out for you.

Shilesh

Re: [QuadtoneRIP] Re: downloading/Instaling QuadtoneRip

2011-03-04 by Janet Reider

Hi - Thanks for your offer of help.

My printer is an Epson 2200 - so those are the "printer profile" ink sets
that I checked in my download. On the print page I do not have sliders to
chose percentages of this or that ink. In fact, it seems as if the print
page that comes up when I ask the printer to "print" is not the one I should
be seeing but I don't know how to access any other The print page that
comes up is the one that is the standard for my printer.
I'm also working with Photoshop CS5 (not one of the ones in the
tutorial).
For the time being I have returned to my CS5 B&W settings to try to get
decent B&W prints as I'm simply not succeeding in my effort to use QuadTone.
Any suggestions are welcomed.

Janet,

Did you exactly follow install instructions per the tutorial linked below. It clearly states that you OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard is supported.

http://www.quadtonerip.com/Tutorial.pdf

On CS3 if you follow the instructions, you should clearly see Quad 2200 in the Print Dialog. Are you getting that far?
