Cannot Run QTR Tools

Cannot Run QTR Tools

2011-07-08 by agoldhammer

I downloaded QTR the other day to see how a profile made for my Epson 3880 using the ABW driver might work (I want to evaluate this before paying for it). I have printed out both a 21 step and 51 step patch set and measured them using Argyll CMS. I have loaded the data into an Excel spreadsheet and it looks quite good with only a minimal deviation from linearity. However, I cannot get any of the three tools in the Eye-One folder to run. I have created both tab and csv txt files and the result is that nothing happens except for a window opening up, saying "Cannot find the C:\Program Files (x86)\QuadToneRIP\Eye-One\ABW_IGFS-out.txt file"

I am using the exact same format for the *.txt file that is shown here: http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/article_pages/bw_printing/bw_print_colormunki.html

It may well be that I am not doing something correctly but I've looked at the files in both Excel and Notepad and they appear OK. There is not much documentation on how to use the tools and X-Rite does not support the target reader software that is mentioned since they have moved on to a more robust profile maker.

Any help would be appreciated.

I identified the problem. The three QTR utilities would not run in the folder that they were installed into. I don't know whether this is a Win7 issue or not (I'm the only user of my computer and the administrator). At any rate, I moved them to a dedicated ABW folder outside of the Quadton RIP file that is located in the Program Files folder and they run fine.

I would like to hear about your results using QTR with the ABW driver. I also use a 3800 and I have QTR but have not tried to use it with the Epson ABW.
Thanks.

Will do. I do all my B/W printing with the ABW driver since it gives a deeper black point and more linear response even in the absence of a profile or Photoshop curve. I've profiled three papers so far: Ilford Gold Fiber Silk, Museo Silver Rag, and Canson Plantine Fiber Rag (the three principal gloss papers I print on) and will do the matte papers in a couple of days. Reading the unadjusted patches (either 21 or 51 step) reveals a pretty good linear response with both papers with somewhat higher contrast in the midtones. I used the "dark" tone setting for all three papers (and this is also something I will need to go back and look at since most papers fall between the neutral & darker setting).
