Re: M-boats and Serge [PS12]

Good Morning Bakis,

One M-boat has a power requirement that is equivalelent to a
STS/Serge panel (Shop series or Custom).

What you have, Bakis, is a [PS12] as denoted by the four 5-pin "XLR"
connectors. --(The [PS6] has two)

Your [PS12] implied by the designator, up to 12 panels. So you will
have plenty of room to grow your STS/Serge.

Please note that AC line Voltages in Europe/U.K. (& the lower half
of Japan) all have 50 Hz as the standard. This derates power supplies
Dc outputs by approx 15%.

What you need to connect your "M-boat to the [PSD], running off the
[PS12], is a [PBX] "Power Braid Extender" cable (18" long) OR a
[PBXL] "Power Braid Extender Long" same except (24" in length).

Both length extenders are Male MOLEX on one and Female MOLEX (4-pin)
on the other end.

These are hand braided and $ 20 / $ 25 each, respectively.

No [PS2a] is required given your configuration.

Best,

Harry Tique

hello Harry,

ok, thanks!

so, from your info, the molex connector on the back of
the m-boats should be a Male, right?
( i assume that because the male end of PBX goes to
the female connectors of the PSD, and so, the female
end of the PBX goes to the male connector on the back
of the m-boat...? also, what about the watts of the
step-down transformer i asked you about?

many thanks for all the info!
best regards, :-)
Bakis.

Re: M-boats and Serge [PS12]

2008-02-25 by Harold Tique

Hello Bakis,

I'll answer your questions in between them as in the order below:

"ok, few more questions:

and, (as i already have two PSD's and two xlr
connecting cables that go from the ps12 to the two
psd's, )"

when i need to buy more m-boats, i just need to buy
more 5-pin 'XLR' cables and more PSD's, to connect the
ps12 to the new serge PSD's, and to buy more "power
braid extender"(PBX or PBXL) cables to connect the new
PSD's to the new m-boats, right?

That' correct: you need three things:

1) Power "Hose" (goes from [PS12] to [PSD])
2) Power Distribution [PSD] (has 5 connector "spaces" avaiable for
panel hookups)
3) Power Braid Extender [PBX] 18" or [PBX] 24" (long)

also, that PBX cable, has one male and one female
molex connector, or two males?? (trying to figure out
how the PBX cable will connect the PSD board to the
back of the m-boat...)
is the molex connector in the back of the m-boat that
receives power, male or female?

==The power braid "tail" extending from the "M-boat has a
Male 4-pin MOLEX on it.==

and one more question:
in order to bring the greek 230
volts level down to the us 110volts, i use a 150watts
step-down transformer. in case my ps12 will eventually
be powerring up 12 serge panels, will i need to
upgrade this stepdown transformer to a bigger one, and
if yes, how much watts this bigger step-down
transformer should be then?
will my 150watts step-down transformer be ok for my
ps12 powering up, say, up to 9 serge panels?

==Probably, but the only way to truly know the
true "load"requirement, is
to hook your x-former up and listen to it with your instrument
patched.==

If your x-former gets too hot/or and makes "sounds" like it's
working "too hard"
It Is, and you'll need to go up to the next power level.

Keep in mind that the "dynamic power" (patched-up and driving output
loads) is always greater than "quiescent" power draw of a non-
patched system.

many thanks for your help!
best regards, :-)
Bakis.

My pleasure, Bakis

Re: M-boats and Serge [PS12]

2008-02-25 by Bakis Sirros

hello Harold,

ok, one more question:
as the PSD has female 4-pin molex connectors in it,
and the m-boat has a cable with a male 4-pin molex
connector for getting power (like the standard serge
panels, right?), why do i need the PBX cable?
is the cable of the m-boat too short?
i assume that i could connect the cable of the m-boat
directly to the PSD to get its power... or?

sorry, but i am trying to understand this.

thanks in advance,
best regards, :-)
Bakis.

Re: M-boats and Serge [PS12]

2008-02-25 by Harold Tique

Hello again Barkis,

The M-boat has, in this first of 4 M-class module release, been
designed to go with the new [PS2a] to allow a great opertunity for
those that have always wanted a STS/serge, but found the entrance
bar to high, a way now to get on board and play their stuff on this
new line of select mini-modular components!

The length of the braid coming from the internal [PSD] to the
exterior world is 12", so that it's connection to the [PS2a] is right
there, short & sweet, for the best power/ground connection with the
supply's Molex connector cord.

The [PBX(L)] power braid extender allows artists like yourself who
already have Serge panels, the extended length of power braid
to match the existing paradigm you have in easily connecting to
other external [PSD]s and larger associated Power supplies.

Cheers,

Harry

ok, thanks Harold!

one more question:

i will rackmount the m-boat.
do i need extra rack ears? or these come included with
the m-boat?
btw, i already replied to your other email, but seems
that it has a delay until you receive my replies (from
my other email account).

thanks,
best regards, :-)
Bakis.
