Yes, you can decorate it. Before you do, read page 5 of the Etherwave  
Assembly Manual.

(I suggest that, before you use any finish on the theremin you first  
paint it onto a sheet of paper and lay it on top of the theremin to  
see if it has any effect on the tuning. If it does, don't use it!)

Please post a picture when you have decorated your instrument.
