Theremin decorating

2006-12-16 by kelly Xexchron

Hi everyone,

My name is Kelly Xexchron (Xexchron @ The Theremin, on MySpace), and
i've been lurking here for a while. Mostly because i'm just starting
out.

I have a question...can I safely decorate my Theremin? I have a
standard Etherwave Theremin...can I paint it, either spray paint it or
w/ acrylics? I'm an artist and I decorate everything...now that i'm in
a band, I want to decorate my Theremin. Any advice??

use non metallic paints - some black pigments are
conductive. i would expecct that gold and sliver
paints may also be conductive

iwould expect that safe non-toxic acrylic paint should
be usable.

instead of painting the actual theremin, you could
just affix wooden or cardboard panels with either glue
or velcro and paint the panels. you could also use a
canvas, paint it and wrap it around the theremin and
staple it to the bottom of the case. both solutions
are easily reversable and changeable.

my advice is that you really want the audience
watching and looking at you, not your instrument.

then again, i kow an artist who covers his cars with
doll parts, toys, hoses, mannequin parts, gee jaws and
spinners. the cars still run fine.

Yes, you can decorate it. Before you do, read page 5 of the Etherwave
Assembly Manual.

(I suggest that, before you use any finish on the theremin you first
paint it onto a sheet of paper and lay it on top of the theremin to
see if it has any effect on the tuning. If it does, don't use it!)

Please post a picture when you have decorated your instrument.

You can paint your Etherwave any color you want so long as you use paint that has
nothing conductive in it. No graphite or carbon I believe. Goodluck

Thanx for the advice! Funny enough, I have an art car...I tried to send pix of it twice already to the group..but Yahoo was unable to deliver...

  Sincerely,
