Hi Mike, The EPS16+ is a very clean sounding machine, if you want grit you should look at its predecessor, the Ensoniq EPS. The EPS16+ and the ASR10 sound very similar and give you back pretty much what you put in. I've had all three machines but now just use the EPS because it gives you a nice crunchy sound but not as crunchy as say an EMU Emax. --- On Thu, 8/4/11, mike yates <crazymike99@...> wrote:

I'm sure you've all heard of the ensoniq EPS+ 16bit
sampler keyboard. from 1989 was it? 1990
how does the sound compare to anyone lucky enough
to own one.
Is the EPS16+ more gritty? that's what I want to
talk about really, the grit. I can't hear any in the s1000 (well, I got the
s1100 but should be simular) you don't really associate grit with the
16bitters.
Thanks.2011-08-04 by Rish
If you want grit get the EPS classic, it allows for like 20 different sampling rates...The 16+ does not. You can select a low 8 bit rate and get a gritty sound. Don't even bother with a Mirage it's junk. Both Ensoniqs are vary clean sounding at normal sampling rates just like the S1000. Rish Life is like MIDI, your either IN, OUT or THRU.

\ufffdI've got both the S1000 and S1100, and they don't sound exactly the same. The S1100 has differnt A/D converters. To my ear, the S1000 is grittier and punchier, while the S1100 is cleaner and more accurate.

I have S-1100, S-1000 and S-1000PB.
Only S-1100 has Burr Brown converters and separate ones for the single outs.
The "grittiest" sampler of the AKAI S series is the S-900.
I doubt the S-1000 is punchier than S-1100 or has any more quality over a S-1100.
The S-1000 loses sound quality in MIDI multi mode and w/ several programs on different MIDI channels routed to the stereo outs and single outs,- like every multiplexing machine.
It´s not extremely audible, but there´s a/ the difference to the S-1100 and beside the differences in overall features.

I have a EPS 16+ and an S1000 nad they both are very clean sounding. Advantage to the EPS+ for it's built in effects. It came with double memory and 6 outs, but no external SCSI port. Hats off to Akai for it's consistency from the beginning S900/950. --- In akaiS1000S1100Samplers@yahoogroups.com, "mike yates" <crazymike99@...> wrote:

Lets not forget the Akai S612. At it's lowest sample rate, 4khz , it's about as grungy as it gets. What's amazing is that with it's analog filters even 4khz samples still sound recognizable.
