Sounds good Colin, cant wait Have there been any decisions regarding the cases finish? Raw, Paint, color, anodize, powderocat, etc?? congrats on being a father. DIY! your ultimate(long term)project. ~Stv

> Have there been any decisions regarding the cases finish? Raw, Paint, > color, anodize, powderocat, etc?? I had decided on paint, but then had a bit of a re-think. I'm going to see if they have examples of each in the factory before I make my mind up. The press fitting of stand-offs can leave an impression that paint hides and anodising doesn't. But apparently anodising will harden the surface up so that the impression might not be that noticeable anyway. > congrats on being a father. DIY! your ultimate(long term)project. I'm hoping in a few years I'll be able to delegate circuit prototyping and coding to my junior lab assistant ;-) Cheers, Colin f

I have to say that the brushed raw finish looks great, and a few blems where the studs are welded doesnt bother or deter me. BUT It seems to me that they should be able to fit studs, and then brush the surfact to make them invisible. Perhaps they are brushing the case before pressing the studs on? At the shop I work at, we go to pretty far lengths to please the customers, even if it means we have to rethink or reinvent our processes. For a plant that makes cases and panels, getting invisible studs shouldnt be an issue! I would ask or demand them to see if they can do better. Regardless, it looks great. I really like how the back where the jacks are is recessed, and the provisions for wood endcaps. Got a ballpark on pricing? Stick with silver, ~Steve (ps, what language did you write the code in?)

The studs will have to be fitted after the anodising - I don't think the anodising process agrees with the steel in the studs. The anodised panels wouldn't be brushed anyway - they have a smooth finish. Brushed might be an option, but I much prefer the look of anodised smooth metal. > Regardless, it looks great. It may be a little more once I know how much the wood will be. > Stick with silver, Yeah, silver is my favourite, so that's the colour they'll be ;-) > (ps, what language did you write the code in?) 99% of it is in C, compiled using SDCC for MCS51 target. There are some basic I/O routines written in assembler. Developing in C is much, much faster than assembler (especially 8051 assembler...), and the code produced is nearly as good as hand-coded assembler anyway. Cheers, Colin f

colin- I've just been reading about the zeit again.... can I order another p3 like the one I've already got? :-) duncan.

Duncan, > can I order another p3 > like the one I've already got? :-) The production units will be able to have the standard front panel replaced with a Schaeffer panel, if you really want to have it the same. It will then look almost exactly the same from the front, and roughly the same at the back. The standard front panel would then be surplus to requirements, but you might well find someone on the group willing to buy it, which would offset the cost of the Schaeffer panel - roughly 80 quid. I wouldn't expect many people will go down the custom panel route, but obviously if you really want a matching pair... The only change required from the front panel design on your current unit would be to relocate a few of the mounting holes round the edge, so it fits the production rear enclosure, which it must be said, is a really high quality piece of engineering ;-) When I get a minute, I'll sort out an FPD file for a Schaeffer replacement production front panel, and post it to the files section, so would-be P3 customisers can have a play.
