P3 US BoM

P3 US BoM

2005-05-18 by colinfraser_com

Folks,

I've updated the US BoM myself, since I thought it best to check it
out. You'll find it in Yahoo files.
Lucky I did, as the current boards no longer support the 12mm tact
switches - these were dropped in favour of the Cherry MX production
switches.
This means that the 12mm tacts cannot be used for step, keypad or
function keys, so Multimec tacts would be required instead.
These don't appear to be available in the US (?), so I highly
recommend US kit builders take the optional production key set,
which will include two Multimec tacts for the function keys from now
on.

Otherwise, the US BoM only needed slight alterations.
I haven't hunted down part number for a suitable 16 pin strip PCB
header for the PLED board, I leave that as an exercise for the
reader ;-)
The Mouser import should be accurate, but I don't guarantee it's
correct. I have a 4 month old son, and never get to sleep later than
6am.

Cheers,
Colin f

Folks,

It may be worth noting that Rapid have now discontinued the Multimec tact
switches.
The bastards.
Fortunately I have sufficient stock for the remaining PCBs I have.
The next order of PCBs will be revised to suit the 12mm standard tacts
instead of the Multimec ones, assuming I can find circular 10mm caps in the
UK.
I shall not transgress my "always make sure it's multi-sourced" rule again.

Cheers,
Colin f

what? even with the constant flow of them to your garage? man...

thanks for taking the trouble to update the US BOM for me. i confess that,
not having a kit to assemble myself, i wasn't looking forward to the task.
:)

bleep.
out.

Hi Colin,

If these are rapid item 78-0650 then they are also available from
Farnell, item 674-825 and the caps are 674-837 for black, other
colour caps available too, switches and caps are in stock at Farnell
ATM. Got mine from there.

yup. the way i do it using auxes is as follows;
- in pattern edit mode, set aux D to "rep*N by length", krank up all
the knobs to max - i usually use the "sculpt" function to do this - &
turn on every step.. this gives you the basic setup to get rolls. the
speed of the roll depends on the length of the note.
- setting aux C to "knob N to length" allows you to use one of the
knobs to vary the speed of the roll in play-mode by varying the
note-length.
- setting aux B to "mask aux D, Kn>N" allows you to create weird
breaks in the roll, or start the roll with a twist of a knob in play-mode.
- setting aux A to "aux D = event N" gives you even more possibilities
to get some variation going... auxes rock!!

Can the p3 do really fast rolls. I like to get in really close on my
sequencer and add microscopic rolls on my snares and hats. Can I do this
with my hands now? :-)

i find that the P3 is actually rather poor when it comes to bakery... my
pastries never turn out right.

*ahem*

sorry. i'm over-excited about revenge of the sith, and it's making my
sense of humor more retarded than usual.

it's *super* easy to do rolls on a P3... you can use note repeat aux
events to do super fast ones, or for rolls that are at the same timebase,
it's easy to set all the notes in a track to the same note, then you can
gate them or not as you wish. and then you can change timebases easily
too, or make the P3 do it automatically, or assign a knob (in play mode)
to change the timebase of a track...

so yeah, it can do rolls... of all sorts except the baked kind (though
paul n. might disagree with me there :)

bleep.
out.

What is it w/ this star wars fever? I have been seriously dissapointed
in these new star wars. I guess I'm a purist. They look like fancy
video games w/ a bunch of pretty people. Not my eighties sci-fi ..

Anyway, good news. About the rolls.
