two octaves up?

two octaves up?

2005-07-10 by davide

Hi!
Is it normal that the notes on the p3 are shown as two octaves up?
When i select a c3 the synths are instead receiving a c1.
I've also tryed to record a sequence in logic 7
and it's still shown as a c1. Changing the base note didn't help.
It's so also on yours?
Thanks
D

There are some differences of opinion about the octave numbering for midi
notes.
It was never defined by in the midi standard.
This page may be of interest:

I applied the logic of having octave 0 the bottom of the midi note range,
rather than aligning the numbers with what you might expect on a piano
keyboard. Aside from anything else, there are only three character spaces to
display the note names, so something like C#-2 couldn't have fitted.

Yamaha seem to name their notes an octave out too..
That's why I asked Colin for note numbers, makes it much easier when
assigning samples to notes. ;-)
