Alps pots 10K

2005-08-29 by jitterbugbite2003

Hi Colin,

in the BOM, in the 'notes'section at the end there was stated that
farnell doesn't stock the exact same kind of pots. While browsing
through their catalogue, I found this one: order code 642-988
It's 10K, and with a D-shaft. 0.1 W

It's very pricy, but can I use these for my P3 ?

Thx

Yes, they will be fine. The Alpha pots are pretty much exact copies.
You'll need to use different knobs too.
That's a hell of a price though...

Does anyone have the complete Alpha part number for the recommended
pots? I am still trying to source these in the USA.

Thanks!

vermona drum module?

2005-11-16 by Richard Scott

Hi

I'm looking for an analog drum module to use alongside the P3. Needs to have knobs and sound more fun than the machinedrum (too digi for my ears) I wonder if anyone has any experience with this thing from vermona?

I reviewed the MK1 in SOS yonks ago. Seem to recall liking it (the
review will be online I expect). Bought a PerFourmer which is a good P3
companion in many respects, despite being the barest of MIDI specs and
having a limited note range.

Personally I've not found a drum machine I like better than the Korg
ESX-1. With a couple of OS tweaks it'd be perfect but I don't think
that's gonna happen.

Hey Paul,
Way off topic here, but what are the major differences between the Korg ESX-1 and EMX-1, is the ESX geared towards sampling a lot more? or does it also have built in sounds... I know the EMX has a limited set of sounds and no sampling capapbilities...

it of course comes down to what you're gonna do with it, but in my brief
trial of the vermona, i thought it was a nice machine. it's something
different, that's for sure.

Re: [analogue-sequencer] vermona drum module?

2005-11-16 by Miguel Mendoza

Hi,
I'm a new P3 user and first of all I would like to say hello to everybody.

Regarding the drum module, I have the Vermona DRM1 MKII (silver). If you like analog sounds it can be your module, I really like its sound. The bassdrum (3) can sound really fat and even near emulate a TR-808, long decay, distortion and fm can also make really wiard kicks. I only miss the posibility to map the pitch across the keyboard, but I think it's part of the price you pay for a real analog module...

The multi is also very interesting to make strange metallic sounds, zaps, blip, etc... really fun.

The snare, honestly, I preffer the snare of my Jomox XBase 09 (perhaps I prefer this to any other I ever heard) but it's also very flexible sound nice and has its own reverb. I like it.

Cymbal/Hi hats/clap, great, you can emulate 606, 808, 909 and make your own sounds very easy. The sound is very brilliant and fit like butter in the mix.

So, I really recommend it if you are into analog sounds, and like to tweak knobs and you don't mind the memory presets. I also had a Machinedrum which finished on Ebay because to my ears was also very digital.

Think also about Jomox Airbase, it only has a couple of knobs but it sounds very good and has memory presets, you can find one cheap easily.

Cheers!

Miguel

I don't know too much about the EMX but as it doesn't sample, it doesn't
really interest me. I have plenty of synths and the P3. The ESX can
import wavs which means it can be any drum machine you want it to be. It
can handle sliced loops (only mono alas) and "restartable" loops and
slice an external signal. Plus it has two sample parts specifically for
playing tuned samples - so I have samples of my analogue synths in it,
voices, all sorts of weird stuff; I control these two parts from the P3.
There are three effects processors, there's recording of knob movements,
individual outputs, an arpeggiator (great for fast kick rolls) and its
general hands-on control just make it ace.
Only downsides are :
* It's very slow to delete samples and you have to import them one at a
time. Solution - freeware called ESX organiser. Yippee
* filter has same crappy resonance as heard on MicroKorg (otherwise it
sounds OK)
* no way I ever found to have individual effects send levels - they're
just on or off
* no knob pass-thru mode
* can never match its idea of swing with the P3's swing feel.
