>>v3.1.006 beta 22 fixes a problem with running status handling that affected record soft-thru.<< what did it do that it wasn't supposed to? I've been arsing about with beta 21 for a week now &, apart from that business with the FA's coming out of thin air, no problems. I got the pic today, btw- will try over the w/end. I map the pan (cc10) onto summat else in my proteus boxes, but I too would like to be able to reassign the knobs globally, rather than chewing up all the auxes. I know, I know- I said I'd never need it... I've got all these midi controller boxes.... but it makes more sense to have it all on one control surface, & I use the keyboard for 90% of note-entry. (this is why my current live rig has a panel next to the p3 that's the same colour- schaffer blue- & has half of a drehbank behind it). duncan/r.m.i.

I've been arsing about with > beta 21 for a week now &, apart from that business with the FA's > coming out of thin air, no problems. There are two types of MIDI note off message - '9c nn 00' and '8c nn vv', where c is channel, nn is note number and vv is velocity. You can see that only the 8c type supports release velocity, but the advantage of the 'zero velocity note-on as note-off' is that you don't interrupt running status for note-offs. I assume whatever you're feeding your P3 with uses 8n type note offs. The problems have all been related to 9c type note offs with running status. My controller keyboard uses 8c because it sends release velocity, but this isn't too common. Fortunately, since my controller is now built into my E&MM Spectrum, and is passing through a PIC that handles both internal CV conversion and master keyboard output, I've been able to change it to different styles of output for testing P3. Which is nice. Best regards, Colin Fraser Sequentix Music Systems Ltd http://www.sequentix.com

> Will soon recieve the P3. Will this update already be installed? > Happy day. Tom Generally speaking, production P3s ship with the most recent *release* version of the code. But since the current beta includes additions which improve ease-of-use in some areas, I've been shipping with the most recent beta build that I'm convinced has no weirdness in it. This is currently v3.1.006b10, but I may move to a later beta in the next couple days. I've been planning to make v3.1.006 the release version for a while now, but I want to get as many of the planned new stuff in there before the upcoming video tutorial session, and before I get another print run of manuals done. Downsizing my studio, so if you want an AMAZING (and probably the best) sampler to work with your P3 sequencer, my S5000 is up for grabs. Mint condition, comes with the USB card allowing you to easily dump your samples via USB with drag & drop file exploring. If I get no offers, it'll be going on eBay in a couple of days. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alex R. >>There are two types of MIDI note off message - '9c nn 00' and '8c nn vv', where c is channel, nn is note number and vv is velocity.<< I have a feeling that, if this is also the case with the notes that pass through the p3 (yes?) it may fix something odd that's happening with my elderly maq. I get a hanging note on one channel. the maq is playing notes on 11, 12 & 13 & I get a stuck note on channel 12 only. reliably. I mean, every time. pressing "stop" on the p3 doesn't do anything now because it's being clocked by something else.... could the "stop" botton be made to send an all-notes-off regardless of where the clock is coming from? but I will investigate the maq's behaviour a bit more closely too. I have another one I can try in the same slot, with the old firmware in it... which reminds me, I have to call emis today... :-( d.
