New accumulator option

New accumulator option

2006-01-17 by bleep

Hi Colin...

No hurry on this one, but could you add a new accumulator config option to
the TBI list? What I want to do is this... I want to have a set value
(e.g., note) on a step, and when I add a rel value to the accumulator I
want it to come down to the step value and go back up again... in other
words, I want to skip the "going negative" part of the reverse mode and
just go positive again.

Is that possible?

Or maybe there's a way to make this happen without new code... feel free
to enlighten me if so. :)

Thanks,
F.

It would be easy to do as far as calculating the accumulator values, easier
than doing the "going negative" bit.
But I don't think there are any spare bits left in the pattern data
structure to hold an extra accumulator limit mode.
I'll have a look...
If it can't fit in, it could be a global option, but that would affect all
patterns or none.

This was something my mate with a Supernova wanted so he could
increase filter env depth gradually but not go into negative amounts.
The solution we cunningly devised was to start with higher initial
values so that when it went back down, it only got as far as what he
intended to be zero.

So your notes would be pitched higher initially than you wanted, sorta
like you started your cycle mid-way through. Once it's been looping
for a few hours, you'll probably forget that... :)

if you can't fit it in, don't worry about the extra mode... this is the
kind of thing that really shouldn't be global.

there are ways around it, as paul noted, but a new mode would just allow
us to be more precise...

Well, it turns out I'm using two bits to hold the A: mode, giving 4 possible
settings, of which only 3 are used.
So it would make sense to get the optimum use of those bits by renaming
'rvrs' to 'rvbp' (reverse bi-polar) and adding 'rvtz' (reverse to zero).
Assuming it doesn't break anything...

Percussion demo

2006-01-21 by Paul Nagle

Had a lot of fun playing the Emu World board in my Proteus 2000 today.
For example, how much fun can you have when you program every pattern
with a knob that will send its notes either to its own MIDI channel or a
completely different one. With 8 tracks you can sending notes to 16
channels and do so mixing dynamically with the knobs.

anyway, here it is - sorta African-like, reminding me of my old djembe
classes... :)

Sorry for the uneven levels etc., was getting a little too relaxed by
the time I came to record it...

Sure, max of 8 tracks at once but any track can play individual notes on
any of 2 channels. I added a kick from an electribe at one point but
that's all.

Same Data, Different Sounds

2006-01-22 by arglebargleuk

I thought to myself, let:s fire the same data (as percssion demo)at
the Mo Phatt board and see what it does....

http://www.bogusfocus.com/mp3/P3/Same%20Data%20Playing%20MoPHatt%20Sliced.mp3

A bit long and self-indulgent, sorreeee...

Oh, make sure you can hear the bass properly, I just tried via my
laptop and had to be sure I'd uploaded the right track, Totally
transforms it.

Bass rules

Those are both awesome! Makes me want to hear you layer them on top of
each other.

3 questions:

Are you using the poly record function (multi notes on each step)?

What is the aux command(s) to switch MIDI channels?

How many parts are you using?

Thanks for the double dose of inspiration!

Heh, gotta be...mmmm... done.

Not using it too much in this one - I tweaked some of the tracks as it
went along.

> What is the aux command(s) to switch MIDI channels?

It's under Set Step Value, at the end. Cos you do it on a step by step
basis (well, cool, you could have every other step pick a midi channel
from 1-16 or accumulate them taking the values from another track with
a different length.

Oops, sorry.

All 8!
