speaking of kenton~ P3 & Cs-80 w/kenton kit

2006-06-25 by sad1robot@aol.com

x-mas came early in the form of a cs-80 with a kenton midi retrofit.
my back still hurts from lifting it two flights of stairs into my apt.
Id like to report that the P3 shakes hands warmly with the cs80's
kenton midi.
can the p3 transmit polyphonic aftertouch?
i really shoud make some mp3s clips of this .. now back to those levers.

That sounds more like x-mas and your birthday...

Can't the Kenton retrofit receive poly aftertouch ?

P3 doesn't have a MIDI send for poly a/t because I've never used it and no
one's has ever asked for it.
It is quite a data hungry thing to send too - you need a note and a pressure
value, so it could in theory need two auxes to send a single message.
However, since it would be pointless to send a message for a note that isn't
already playing, maybe a "send poly a/t" event could send a message for the
primary note in a step - so you would be able to pick out a single note in a
chord for modulation.
I can see a problem there regarding how synths handle poly a/t though - does
the pressure value get reset when the note is released, or does the sending
device need to reset the value when required ?

spawny get! I have a cs50 (a bit less backache, a bit less yamaha) but
no midi on it. actually, this means you have to play it's own
keyboard, which in some ways is a good thing. mine doesn't have the
ribbon controller, & is a four-voice, single osc version of the cs80,
with preset sounds. it does, however, have a manual mode (& I have
schemos so I could, in theory, edit the presets), & then there's the
aftertouch & the ring-mod.... not bad for 1975! it originally belonged
to a touring air-force band in the US, & the lid still has the base's
stencils on it.

duncan.
