Another electronics query I'm afraid... I bought everything except resistors from the Bill of
Parts on the idea that I'd pick up the resistors from Maplin, but whilst the BoM gives the
value could someone offer advice on whether it should be carbon film, metal film, power
ratings etc. I do realize they must be axial!

Cheers,

Peter.

Hi Peter,

Some time ago, I did a BoM for the P3:

http://techman.synth.net/pdf/P3Rest.pdf

This might be a bit out of date now regarding part numbers.

You'll be wanting metal film 0.25W resistors. I used Rapid
Electronics for my parts.

The current Maplin parts would be the 0.6W Metal Film range. Wow, do
they really charge 13 pence EACH for them!! Go to Rapid if you can.

Cheers

Andy

For 13p each, I'd be expecting them to come round and solder them in for me.

I don't want to sound like a grumpy old man, but I can remember going into
Maplin (many years ago...) with the BoM I'd worked out for my 6502 based, 8
channel MIDI to CV convertor.
They had every single part in stock, except for one value of resistor.
Nowadays you're lucky if you can get anything more than a spare phono plug
without having to get it ordered in.
Rapid are better, cheaper and faster.
The only sucky thing about Rapid is their anything-BUT-Rapid website...

Ah yes, I started using Maplin about 30 years ago. In those days they
did have almost everything you needed.

Now they wouldn't know which is the hot end of a soldering iron :->(

Rapid V. good

I'm so old my first customer number with Maplin was just over 9000. I
used to bike to the the old double fronted shop in Southend from home in
Hornchurch. It was a veritable Aladdin's cave for geeky youngsters like
me. I vaguely remember there was a large synth next to the front door
for quite some time, probably a 3800, but I can't remember for sure.

Once Mike Beecher less than politely told me to go away after playing on
one of the organs for too long... ah those were the days. :-)

Yeah, its really slow for me too. And, do check your final basket
carefully, because only last week it spontaneously altered a quantity of
one item while I was editing another. Not had this before but it was
running particularly slow that day.
