RE: [bc2000] Re: Broken encoder

2009-01-02 by James Glover

Right, well I finally got it apart, and I can't see any loose connection unfortunately.

I'm not good enough with electronics to go any further. If it was an obvious pin that needed soldering I would give it a go, but there is nothing obviously wrong. I'm actually amazed the thing still works at all now it is back together!

I love the BCR2000, but they are just too poorly manufactured. This is already my second and I'm not keen to buy a 3rd as it will probably just break too.

I'm looking at a Novation Remote SL Zero now. http://www.novationmusic.com/products/midi_control/remote_zero_sl/
Does anyone have experience with one of these? If so I have a couple of q's:

1) If I chose not to use the automap function can I load new presets like with the BCR?
2) Can you select different tracks and effects with the automap like with mackie mode on the BCR?

If it is not as 'mouseless' then maybe I will have to stick with the BCR and take another risk!

Thanks,
James.

Royce, I think you are right - holding it to the side does seem to rectify the situation.

Thanks for the help. I presume that if I dissessemble the unit, I should be able to re-solder the contact?

Cheers,
James.

Hi James
perhaps you have already tried this but, before launching into
stripping the thing down, can I suggest that you swap the software
parameters of an encoder that you know is working for the one that isn't.

You can program the encoder to give these sort of results. Perhaps you
could give us the parameters you have set it up with.

Another check you might like to do is to push the knob to the side and
hold it while you twist it. Try holding in different directions.
Sometimes not all the connections on the encoder are successfully
soldered during manufacture and a small amount of pressure will cause
movement and will make/break the connection on one of the lugs.

All the best
Royce

a hardware fault.> >Rather than smoothly controlling the parameter it
is assigned too, such as the pan, it moves it in a very jerky fashion.
So when I scross right to left, the pan will move eratically, and in
fact sometimes make small movements in the opposite direction. The
acceleration on it is also messed up, and it is impossible to make an
entire sweet with one quick twist.> >I don't know if anyone else has
had a similar issue, and whether there is any chance it can be fixed?>
