what is most likely is that P-16 preset has been programmed to use the < and > as extra Midi buttons.
As you want to program the BC anyway, I would go over to Mark's web site and download his editor and the documentation that comes with it.
Although it is currently for PC as far as I understand you can run it under OSX with an windows emulator.
