Wow, that looks cool! This could be a solution for my girlfriend's 2
BCRs. Do you have a template for these side brackets? Maybe as PDF or
in a vector format...?

Thanks, I made a template by taping 2 A4 sheets together and marking
the holes for the screws on it. I'll try to make a PDF this afternoon...

And when do these go on sale, I'm ready for one now...

ok, some facts first:

The panels are made from 9mm thick MDF
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medium-density_fibreboard

With a decent jigsaw both panels were cut simultaneous so they are
identical. After sanding I painted them with a water based primer. Then
different layers and mixes of silver, bronze, dark blue, black were
applied and sponged off to get a matching colour. Finally two coats of
water based acrylic varnish to protect the paint job.

To join the BC's together, the side panels are removed and also the top
controllers front (all non-destructive)
the bottom-controller rounded front panel has 2 small plastic support
lips (one on each side) I removed these (small metal saw works good)
but left the rest of the support strips intact so remounting the
original panels is no problem.

I have a pdf ready that contains 3 scans of a side panel; if you print
these at original size, stick them together and cut out the shape, you
should have a template (but please check the distance of the screws on
the actual devices against the template before cutting the wood).

None of back panel in and outputs are covered by the mod
BUT...remember to switch on the power of the bottom BC before mounting it.

I'm prepared to cut some sets. Maybe some formula like cut, sanded and
primed (finish it yourself). It might be hard to get the same result
with the paint job...

Flat out fantastic! Have you decided on a price, with shipping in the USA? Please let me know!

Hey there's a huge thread over at gearslutz.com about combining bcr's/bcf's together and you idea here looks great, so I posted your quote and pics over there (and giving you credit, of course). If you see this and wanna see the thread I can find it for you if you have any problems. Figured you wouldn't have any problem with this but I wanted to give you a heads up.

Nice work!
Peace

glad to hear you liked the mod.
I got the same question about making the panels and sending them
to the USA in february.
Seems like shipping these over would cost at least 2 times more than making them as I'm living in Belgium.

Your best option is to print the pdf (in files section) at 100% and stick it together to make a template.
Disassemble the original side panels (and front panel of the top BC)
Put the 2 controllers on their side and see if the screw holes of the
template match the holes in the BC's.
Then find a local woodcutter and show him the template.

DIY option:
find 2 pieces of wood or MDF(I used MDF 9 millimeter thick so the original screws could be used)
attach the template to the wood/MDF with (double sided)tape, put the second piece of wood under it and drill the screw holes. I put 4 wood screws in the drill holes to stick the 2 pieces of wood together so they won't slide while cutting them.
Now cut along the lines of the template with a decent jigsaw.
After cutting, remove the wood screws and use some sand paper to remove
the rough edges.

I hope this helps...

Thank You for all the information, and for sharing your solution to joining these two units together....I really appreciate it!

Great info, Thx!

How about joining two units together side by side? How to fix them in position?
