Need Help Interfacing TG77 with BCR2000

2016-03-08 by harrellclark@...

So I just got my BCR2000, and I'm already having issues getting it to work with the TG. So with Jon's SYM, it seems to be working fine: I connect it via USB, set it as the SYM MIDI In and Outputs, open up the BCR Editor, and send a template to the BCR (the lights on the BCR start swirling and then stop). However, when it comes to the TG itself, I'm completely lost. Neither machine shows any indication of sending (BCR) or receiving (TG) MIDI data when I move any of the knobs--even when I'm on the page that I think is appropriate (being on the Op. 1 EG screen where I believe that's where the template wants me to be).

To test, I tried having the TG send MIDI data to the BCR with the learn function. When I plug the TG MIDI Out into the BCR's MIDI In, the BCR's MIDI In indicator is constantly beeping green. When I try having the BCR learn a parameter from the TG, nothing is happening...the manual says I should receive a message on the BCR that says either "good" or "bad", which I don't see...the constant beeping leads me to believe the TG is sending data non-stop, which I don't think is supposed to happen, but I just don't know.

So, with both sending and receiving on both ends not working, I'm led to believe I'm having a problem interfacing my BCR and TG. It looks like I have everything correct, though... MIDI settings on TG are:

Voice Receive Ch: omni
Note on/off: all
Device Number: 1
Bulk Protect: on

I tried experimenting with several of those (such as turning bulk protect off), but that did not change anything.

I would appreciate any help I can get!

can you confirm that you are in one of the "s" modes 1-4 on the BCR while trying to send midi to the TG?

This is where it becomes apparent I'm a new user: I saw the S modes in the manual, but I didn't think I needed to toggle them or anything manually...is there a button combination or switch I should know about?

please be sure to post if this solves your issue, i for one manually removed 85% of my hair trying to figure this out.
when on "P-1" press EDIT, hold, and press STORE.
display will say EG.
turn knob labeled TYPE to switch between the 4 U (USB) modes and the 4 S modes, i use mode 1 typically.
then press EXIT.

That got it! I don't remember reading about that...now if I can just figure out how to remember what knob controls what parameter....

Good. If you have the SYM BCR editor open you can see the knob allocations as well as the parameters changing in the patch editors.
