Dual pot alternatives?

Dual pot alternatives?

2010-01-02 by legion01x

I'm building the band pass filter and have run into other projects that require dual pots. I have a few dual 1mg pots in stock but was wondering what the mechanical difference a dual pot offers over either two single pots or if it was possible to wires single to both throws on the pcb.

Forgive me if these seems like a newbie question, I've built a lot of diy things but rarely use dual pots and am not that familiar with their benefits.

Dual pots are used when two parameters need to be controlled in parallel,
and having them operate independently would not be beneficial, or would be
outright bad.

That said, in this case, you may get away with it. Your two filter parts
(upper and lower) would be adjusted independantly. As such you would be able
to vary the bandwidth. There would be some settings where no sound at all
gets through though.

Hmmm, the idea of a variable bandwidth actually sounds interesting. I'm using the circuit in an external processing box (not a synth module) so will have to give it a try.

Thanks for the info!
