Problem printing target - media setting

Problem printing target - media setting

2007-02-16 by Thomas Paul

Trying to print a High Quality Target (225 patches on one sheet) for my Epson 3800. I do my
Page Setup and then go to Print Target and select Print Settings from the pull down menu
then go to media type. When I select Premium Semigloss Photo Paper a window pops up and
tells me to select a file to delete from the popup below, click finished when you are done
deleting files. I have removed all of the files and still get the delete message when choosing
the Semigloss media setting.

Using PrintFix Pro v2.0, Mac w/OSX 10.4

I have printed targets and profiled my Epson 4000 and 7600 and have had no problems with
any media settings.

Any suggestions?

Tom

Yes, this is a known bug with... not exactly our software, but one of
the tools we use building our software. It shows up only with a few of
the newest pro Epson drivers on the Mac. Until we are given a fix for
this, the work around is easy enough:

Go to Photoshop, trigger the print dialog, and configure your printer
settings as desired. Save these as a driver set, and name
appropriately. Now select that set from PrintFIX PRO for printing,
instead of attempting to change the advanced driver settings directly
from there. Since most people only use a few papers, and at consistant
settings, this isn't much of a problem, unless you are trying to test a
series of media settings one after another to determine the optimal one
for a given paper. We've only had a couple reports of this issue
occurring, so there are probably other factors involved in triggering
it.

Yes, there's a bug somewhere between PFP, large format Epson drivers and
OSX 10.4.8 that has affected a small number of people (me, included).

(The bug is that, for some reason, making changes to popups and controls
in some of the large format Epson drivers is causing the commands that
are generated to "leak through" the OSX print dialog and they're ending
up in PFP itself, which is running beneath the OSX print dialog and shouldn't
be seeing any of this.)

There isn't a fix yet, but there is a workaround:

Go into an application where this doesn't happen (as in, anything other
than PFP); set up your 3800 driver the way that you want; and save the config
into a named preset in the OSX printer dialog.

Then, in PFP, use the preset to switch all of the settings for you. This
will work properly.

David,

Followed yours and C.Davids advice, generated a preset in Photoshop and still could not
get it to work. Shut everything down and went to lunch... just tried it again and it works
fine per you suggestion. Thanks guys for your help.
