Reading targets this is what I did to read them faster and accurately

Reading targets this is what I did to read them faster and accurately

2006-03-08 by eieiomoomooheremoomoothere

For what it's worth...

When reading targets, I turn the printed target sheet so I am reading
them from top to bottom as opposed to left to right.

Then I took some white gaffers tape and cut it to about 4mm wide and
20mm long making a thin white stripe. I put this on the side of the
Spectrocolorimeter head, so now I have a reference as to where the
head is lined up on the sheet. I put three of these white stripes on
the Spectrocolorimeter head one on the left, right and top.

OK, I know what your thinking yeah it looks like a zebra (LOL) but, I
find I am able to read a 255 target sheet in 6min or less.

Also I found the Spectrocolorimeter did not move smoothly on some
papers so I put some Teflon stickers on the feet of the
Spectrocolorimeter. Then I cut some Teflon stickers in 1mm strip and
about 5mm long and put them on the around the head of the
Spectrocolorimeter making sure then were in no way interfering with
the measurements of the targets. I find the Spectrocolorimeter now
glides with minimal effort and is much faster and more accurate.

Also I would like to add I am extremely happy with PrintPIX Pro.

Keep up all the good work,
Brian

I just noticed your user name. Brightened my day!

Cool idea on the stripe. It is really hard to see the nozzle on black.

I found that I was having trouble getting the head on the dark
patches. I guess my eyes are getting 'dim'. I used one of my silver
pens that are like paint and just dabbed a few small dots around the
outer edge of the head.

I also found a freeware called autohotkey. With it, I made a script
which hits the enter key every 2 seconds or whatever you like.
Sounds silly, but with these two tweaks, it really made a difference
to me.

Nice idea with the silver pen. I use a white grease pencil.

Glad someone else is looking for semi-auto patch reading.

Wish Mac had a free hotkey utility. Been using Quickeys demo - works with both Windows
and Mac. But CDTobie mentioned something is in the works and these "tricks" will not be
needed in the future!

To me the quest for shortcuts is not so much about speed but smoother workflow.
