Using Spyder2PRO with Win XP dual CRT monitors

Using Spyder2PRO with Win XP dual CRT monitors

2007-07-17 by Peter Marquis-Kyle

I have just bought and installed the Spyder2PRO package and I'm
disappointed to find in the User Guide that "A multi-head video card
will not work correctly" with Windows. Indeed, the software allows me to
select and profile each of the monitors in turn, but it appears to
overwrite the first profile with the second (without letting me change
the profile name), and applies that to both monitors.

For the record, this is my setup:

PC: Dell Optiplex 745 with Intel Core2 CPU
Display adapter: Radeon X1300 Series dual head
Primary monitor: Compaq P1220 22in Trinitron type CRT
Secondary monitor: CTX PR705F 17in Trinitron type CRT
	OS: Windows XP Professional
	Spyder2PRO version: 2.2-4

I have done some Googling and got the clue from this page
http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/article_pages/dual_monitor_calibration.html
that a fix might be possible.

I have installed the Microsoft Color applet, read some other stuff on
this subject, and now my head hurts.

Can someone please point me to reliable step-by-step instructions to
achieve a properly profiled pair of monitors?

Thank you!

If the Microsoft applet won't do it then you are down to requiring hardware. A second, low cost, videocard should fix the issue. Or a single (dual head) PCI Express card.

I have a dual monitor setup under XP (a CRT and an LCD) and use the
Microsoft Color Applet to apply the two profiles to the monitors. You
say you have installed the applet but nothing to indicate that you did
more than install it.

You have to:
1) Create profiles for each monitor.
2) Run the WinColor applet after installing it and assign the correct
profile to each monitor - Devices tab.
3) Install the WinColor applet in the Startup folder with the command
to run it with a "/L" parm similar to this from my system: "C:\Program
Files\Pro Imaging Powertoys\Microsoft Color Control Panel Applet for
Windows XP\WinColor.exe" /L. The "/L" runs it without requiring you to
respond to it.
4) Make sure that there is no other program running at startup (for
example Adobe Gamma) that is trying to set the profile(s).

During my boot cycle I can see the monitors change as the two profiles
are applied.

I hope this helps,
Rollin
