1005 Spectrocolorimeter Problem

1005 Spectrocolorimeter Problem

2009-02-14 by shileshjani

Hello All,

I am new to this group. After a few months hiatus, I am trying to use
my 1005 Spectro for measuring densities. This is from a PrintFix Pro
Suite. Using the measurement tool, I calibrate the Spectro, and when
I measured the paper white, I noticed a strange result of yellow
reading. So I went back and directly measured the calibrating tile.
Same result. My whites are measuring yellow:
L=90.06
a=-24.69
b=80.89

I have tried to post a screen grab in this folder

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/colorvision_group/photos/album/503324840
/pic/list

It is pending moderator approval.

I connected the Spectro to an older computer running PrintFix Pro 1
version, and I get the same result.

Please help.

Shilesh

Maybe your paper is yellowish despite the visual appearances to your eyes.
The white might actually be a cream. Since you get the same results using
two different computers, that would be the first thing to eliminate. Have
you tried to measure a variety of white papers to see if they all report as
yellowish?

Laurie,

Even papers that are blue-cool are reporting yellow.

Re: 1005 Spectrocolorimeter Problem

2009-02-14 by Roger

When I started to get odd readings like white = yellow I had to clean
the white tile as it had accumulated a bit of ink on it from taking
readings. That fixed my problem.

Also, do try the Spyder3Prit software- it speeds up measurements.

Ok, so now we have eliminated that variable. Could it be a dirty sensor or
a yellow colored transparent covering that is coming between the instruments
sensor and the object being measured? What color is the ambient room
lighting in the environment in which you are doing the measurements (under
what type of lighting are the measurements being made (tungsten, daylight,
fluorescent, quartz-halogen, mixed lighting)?

Someone else has already answered this very well: clean the white

No dirty sensor, or other obstacles. Ambient light is total dark (not
that it should matter)

CD,

The tile is clean, and I have the latest version of Spider3Print. I
have tried calibrating it on the very paper I measure, and yet the
same paper white comes out yellow. This is not slightely yellow, it
is SATURATED yellow. See my original post below. FWIW, density in the
Dmax range is reading what I expected.

Clean the white tile, calibrate on the white tile, measure the white
rule. If it still reads far from 90, 0, 0 and your device is still
under warranty, contact support at Datacolor.com to see about a
replacement unit.

It was bought June 2007. Is it still in warranty? I have used it to
make less than 20 profiles to-date.

As I recall, the Spyder3 has a two year warranty, but all other
products, including the Print spectro, have a one year warranty. But I
think we may want to do a post mortum on your spectro if it's having
issues... So start a support ticket even if your unit is out of
warranty.

Thank you, CD.

According to this:

http://spyder.datacolor.com/product-pp-pfp.php

The hardware warranty is 2 years. So should have no problem. I will
start a support ticket.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
