Spyder3Print - How to split measurement pages?

Spyder3Print - How to split measurement pages?

2010-01-04 by prof_mgt551

I recently created a profile using measurements of the four page target (two pages of color patches plus two pages of B&W patches). I am not satisfied with the profile and want to create a new profile based on the first two color patch pages (not use the two B&W patch pages). I am hoping that the new profile will provide a more accurate match of a color print to calibrated screen soft proof. How do I create a new profile using only the two color patch pages. I do not want to have to re-measure the same patches again.

Thanks for any help that can be provided.

There is no official method for splitting out measurements; it might
be possible for a hacker to manage it, but remeasuring the first two
pages of the target into the correct template would be the recommended
method.

The only changes you would achieve by eliminating the last two pages
would be in the neutrals and near neutrals; personally I would
recommend making editing adjustments to your current measurement set
instead.

Right now: you do have to remeasure the first 2 pages if you want to
build a profile
from only the 225 patches without the extended grays. There isn't
currently a way in
the software to convert a 4 page target measurement set into a 2 page
set.

If you're not satisfied with the profile you're getting from the 4
page measurements,
however, that's more likely to imply that something else is wrong (you
may have
printed the target incorrectly; or you may have performed the white
calibration
on the spectro incorrectly; or there may be something wrong with your
measurements;
any or all of these). Measuring and including the extended grays (the
last 2 pages
in the 4 page target) shouldn't do anything more than make your
profile more accurate
around the neutrals; it shouldn't give you a profile that's "worse" in
any way.

Thanks for your replies. Probably the best thing to do is to re-measure the patches or to tweak the current profile.

The current profile is not bad. When used to print a standard printer evaluation image, with out comparing to a soft proofed screen version, the colors look normal. However when compared to the screen version the colors including the neutrals are warmer. This is more noticeable with images that have lots of browns/tans. I have always found it difficult to get a good screen match of these colors whether printing on my Epson 7900 or 3800.

My monitor is calibrated using the Spyder3Pro. I am not sure how I could incorrectly perform the spectro's white calibration, since this is such a simple straightforward step. Also, I am very careful when I do the measurement readings.

I wonder if the new Spyder3Print SR Spectrocolorimeter is more accurate than my unit?

Thanks for your help,

Ken

I would suggest trying the neutral minus preset for a subtle shift
towards cool.
