Spyder 3 Pro Software Does Not See Spyder 3 Colorimeter

Spyder 3 Pro Software Does Not See Spyder 3 Colorimeter

2010-06-22 by mjfait

My computer has developed an issue where the Spyder 3 Pro software no longer sees the Spyder 3 Colorimeter.

The computer was newly built last Christmas and everything worked fine for a while, but recently the software does not recognize the Spyder 3 colorimeter.

I have the latest version of the software (3.1.4) and have tried the following........

I power cycled the computer, connected the Spyder 3 colorimeter to a USB port on the back of the computer, instead of the one at the front as this one goes through some wiring before reaching the motherboard. When I plugged it in, a message popped up from the task bar that said "Found Datacolor Spyder 3" followed by "A problem occurred during hardware installation. Your hardware may not work properly".

I power cycled the computer again, but did not get any pop-up messages this time.
Each time I plug or unplug the Spyder 3 colorimeter, I get some beeps from being recognized as being plugged in or unplugged from the USB.

During this issue I was able to plug a Flash stick into an adjacent USB port and it worked fine. It also worked fine in the same USB port that I tried to use for the Spyder 3 hardware.

Doesn't sound like a USB power issue. Could be a driver issue. I have installed quite a few software packages (and drivers) since the time it worked OK.
I have un-installed and re-installed the Spyder 3 Pro software and it did not fix the issue. I even tried going back to version 3.0.7.

To rule out a problem with the colorimeter I installed the software on a laptop and it had no problem recognizing the colorimeter, so my best guess is a driver conflict on my main computer.

Anyone else have a similar issue in the past?
Are there any known drivers to cause issues with the Spyder 3 colorimeter?

There are specific solutions involving removing and reinstalling all components (some USB driver components under Windows can be very tricky to remove) and other exotic Windows based stuff that I can't begin to help you with. You would have to start a support ticket on our website, and let the support team supply you with the necessary information. As soon as someone says "I built this computer myself" I know it's not going to be an issue I have the answer to...

I put in a support ticket with Datacolor.

Regarding: As soon as someone says "I built this computer myself".....
I don't see why it makes a difference whether I chose the components, assembled a system and install the OS or if some computer manufacturer does.
The fact that the Spyder 3 hardware is not recognized by the computer, is the only software and/or hardware issue that I have right now, and it used to work.

That was an observation. I don't have an explanation for it either, except perhaps that the number of possible combinations of chipsets and other variables under Windows is huge, and that one-of-a-kind combinations are the most likely to be unique, and not previously tested with our products.

Re: Spyder 3 Pro Software Does Not See Spyder 3 Colorimeter - Fixed

I submitted a support ticket with Datacolor and after trying a few things they were able to help me resolve the issue. The issue was with the registry. Must have gotten corrupted. They gave me a registry fix and everything is working now.

I was very happy with Datacolor support.
