Printfix upgrade

Printfix upgrade

2006-02-27 by jwhitebox2000

As an unsatisfied Printfix user I'm wondering about an upgrade path to
Printfix Pro. I'm considering buying one soon, but if there's a
reasonable discount through Colorvision, I'll go through their
channels. Any discount for upgrade?

The below link mentions there will be an upgrade discount announced March 15th.

I will say that PrintFix Pro is working excellent for me...it shouldn't be that good for the
price....more about this later....

Could you elaborate on your issues with Printfix? This new forum could be a
great way to make suggestions to Colorvision. Instead of the comment you
made that really gives no description, a little detail, along with some
positive suggestions (I'm sure) would be very helpful to the CV folks in
planning future versions.

I'm a new user of Printfix Pro, and I have found nothing at all to complain
about.

Yes, there will be such a program, though its not possible to institute special offers until the initial demand is dealt with. Given the overwhelming popularity of PrintFIX PRO, catching up with initial orders has been taking longer than expected, and so instituting the upgrade program for PrintFIX users has been postponed from the initally intended date of Feb 15, to Mar 15. So you can get the best deal you can find right now, if short term usage is important for you, or you can wait, see the details of the upgrade offer (I expect it to be generous), and upgrade then.

We do accept tips and gratuities... <G>

Actually, I shouldn't say that; one year I told everyone who I did things
for, but that didn't seem worth billing, that gratuities were accepted, ideally
in the form of Pinot Noir, Cab, etc... which seemed to ease people's minds,
without actually resulting in any wine appearing. Then the holidays came... and I
couldn't get into my office, for the boxes of wine that were being delivered.
UPS accused me of setting up a liquor store. My wife is not comfortable with
having quantities of alcohol (or ice cream for that matter) in the house, so I
had to smuggle it home one bottle at a time, over the next year or two.
Occasionally she'd say "that was a good bottle of wine, where did you buy that?"...
good thing I didn't suggest ice cream.

That wouldn't actually serve much purpose, as there are no future versions of PrintFIX planned. The idea is to offer the improved quality and features of PrintFIX PRO instead, and offer a good upgrade incentive to PrintFIX (nonPRO) users.

David,
Looking forward to the upgrade path. I assume you will announce it on this forum.
Thanks,

Re: Printfix upgrade

I'm talking about the original printfix that comes w/ the funky
little black scanner. It simply didn't make very good profiles. It
was a cheap item, but I expected more. In fact, after trying it a
number of times (and even making a little guide to feed the targets
straight) I gave up on it. I'll sell it cheap if you're interested.
As for specific complaints... dead images, loss of detail in
highlights and shadows. I have some professionally made profiles to
compare it against, so I'm pretty sure of my displeasure. As a
suggestion, I think CV should have offerred an upgrade immediately to
its poor, suffering customers. Or at least say what the discount
will be so that we're not in limbo and can purchase something without
waiting so long.

I suspect it may be worth more to you for the upgrade, then for resale...

And if you had read the "Is PrintFIX Right For Me?" page on the ColorVision website, I believe thats what it would have recommended for users of your level of expectations: remote custom profiling, not PrintFIX.

As a
suggestion, I think CV should have offerred an upgrade immediately to
its poor, suffering customers.

That would hardly reduce your angst; though then you could worry about your upgrade not arriving instead. It makes no sense to offer the program before they are in a position to fulfill it.

Or at least say what the discount

Sorry that the program details for the PrintFIX to PrintFIX PRO upgrade have not been announced. I did recommend that they announce them as soon as possible, even if they were not in a position to start the program immediately. But you've waited this long, I suspect you'll make it another couple of weeks. Besides, weren't you the guy who was going to sell your copy of PrintFIX instead?

Alright CD, I'll be patient, but it was you who ruined me... back
when you used to do custom profiling for us.

Sorry about that... but its the ease and affordability of rolling your own spectro-grade profiles these days that caused me to stop my custom profiling business. I'm burning my bridges behind me, by developing the products that make my previous business unnecessary. Look at it this way: when you get your copy of PrintFIX PRO, you can build a comparable profile with it, print samples through your old CDTobie profile, and your new PrintFIX PRO profile, and tell everyone that you can make better profiles yourself than the ones the pros make.
