Disklavier

If you really like your Steck, then investigate having
a PD or QRS installed.   I have installed the QRS
product (plastic rocker fingers) under the keys (used
to be called the Gulbransen Crystal Combo) and it works
just fine.  Of course, you may need to edit the data
more than you would a DKV.  The PianoDisc uses a mylar
system with little mylar fingers.  My own perception is
that mylar fingers don't work as well as the plastic
rocker arms.  If all you want to do is record your
piano playing then this is all you need.

If you want to install a solenoid rail for playback,
then I don't think you would have a problem with
cutting a slot in the keybed of a Steck - especially if
it is an old American-buit model.  The keybeds that
"sag" are Kawai and others that only have a few metal
supports underneath.

The other tricky thing about installing a player system
on a smaller upright is the pedal solenoids - sometimes
there is not enough room.  However, a George Steck
explayer old upright would probably already have the
necessary space.
