Good afternoon, everyone.
Kevin, I think that you’ll find a 40 ms delay to be too much.
Here is a way of thinking about audio latency and its effects:
Sound travels at 1,100 feet per second, which is the same as saying 1.12533 feet per millisecond. If you have a 40 millisecond delay, that is the same delay that you would experience when you hear sound emanating from slightly more than 40 feet away.
When you passively listen to someone else playing an instrument from 40 feet away, you won’t notice the delay. If you try to play a duet with that person, you can match your playing to what you hear from the other person. However, you’ll be reacting to a 40 millisecond delay and your partner, in turn, will react to a further 40 millisecond delay when the sound of your playing reaches him. The duet will be a little awkward to negotiate, just as it is when 2 musicians attempt to play with each other from opposite ends of a large church.
In the case of playing the piano, we are used to the sound reaching our ears from just a couple of feet away. I think that you’ll notice the difference.
I should add, parenthetically, that organists get used to this level of delay, but this is not the norm for pianists.
Regards,

So I bought a Bluetooth transmitter to connect to my Disklavier and use a Bluetooth headphone to listen. However, the lag was terrible so I was very disappointed.
