All disks show as unformatted

All disks show as unformatted

2002-03-22 by Josiah Hoskins

I just purchase a 1997 C1 Disklavier (DKC100R).
The piano sounds excellent and all was well with the Disklavier.
Then I went on a trip for a couple of days and upon my return
I find that my Disklavier does not appear to read disks anymore.
Whatever disk that I put in (including the PianoSoft example disk)
the Disklavier reports that the disk is unformatted (which is untrue).
Also, if I try to format a disk (of course a 2DD disk) it goes through
the motions (i.e., counting down from 80 to 01 - note it does not show
00) and then it reports "CANNOT FORMAT DISK".
Has anyone seen this behavior?
I am guessing that it is a malfunctioning floppy disk. Other suggestions?

Contact Mark Wisner, Piano Service, Yamaha Corporation, mwisner@...
or at 800 854 1569. He may ask for the piano's S/N. Chances are he'll lead you
through a fix on the phone. (It is quite unlikely anything is broken. DKVs
left on and deserted while you go on a holiday sometimes get lonesome and
discombobulated.)

Good luck!

Sounds like your floppy disk drive broke. Did your kids use your piano
while you were away? Did someone put a floppy in backwards? Or did the
metal jacket cover come off in the drive?

Try cleaning the floppy drive with a disk cleaner, but if that does not
work, you probably need a new floppy drive. Also, try another disk.
Sometimes even the PianoSoft disks go bad.

The service tech came and yes the floppy disk is broken.
The bottom head is well "trashed".
He will order one and hopefully all will be well.
