Smart Key is not the same thing as Piano Smart. In Smart Key, you use a
pre-recorded Yamaha Smart Key disk that makes a key "wink" so that when you
play the winking key, the accompaniment follows along.

The new Piano Smart allows you to record your own piano accompaniment to any
commercially available audio CD. It's sort of like karoke for the piano.
I do not know if this feature works on the Pro.

Good morning, everyone.

PianoSmart works on all "A" model pianos, including the Pro. The letter "A"
in the model name (such as DC6A or DC6APro) means that the instrument is a
Mark III generation Disklavier.

PianoSmart is a recently released technology and existing model A pianos have
to be updated with a simple procedure using a floppy disk. I shall check on
the official manner in which this update will be made available. From what I
can tell, the update is not currently on the Yamaha web site.

I checked on the availability of the PianoSmart flash ROM update. For the
first 30 days, it is only available from your local dealer. This provides you
with an opportunity to get a personal demonstration as to how it works as
well as to learn about some of the new software that is available for this
technology. In approximately a month, this update will be available for
download from Yamaha's web site.

If you are interested in the more esoteric aspects of this update, such as
synchronization with video using MIDI time code, you might want to get the
documentation. You can ask your dealer to order it for you or call Mark
Wisner at Yamaha Piano Service: (800) 854-1569 between 8:30-5:00 PST. Push 2
at the first menu choice and 2 at the second menu choice.
