Thermostat

2003-03-28 by Amanda H

Hi,
I have had my DC2A for a week now, and have had the thermostat
indicator turn off the piano quite a few times. It's going to be a
while before the dealer can get a tech out to my house (my bad
schedule, not theirs) and wondered if anyone had any tips in the
meantime. I assume this is a safety mechanism, and that it is
supposed to shut down to prevent heat damage, but I wonder if it's
regulatable or has more to do with ambient temperature, etc. Also,
will it reset itself and return the piano to play if I leave it
alone? I've been a big chicken and have been turning the entire unit
off when the message comes up.
Other than that, I love it, despite its price tag :)
Thanks
Amanda

What is it about this condition that leads you to think that you have a
thermostat problem? What is the number and message that appears?

Usually, the only thermostat errors occur on the pedal solenoids. When they
overheat, they shut down. It means the pedals are out of adjustment.

If this is the case, you should not use the Disklavier part of the piano
until it is serviced. Try working something out sooner rather than later.

Hey Amanda,
I have a DC1A and have heat related issues, however mine has never turned itself off. I would be interested in talking with you more in depth about this, and very curious to see what the end result is.
Thanx,
John

The screen reads "Thermostat <another word I can't remember>" on the
top line and "Piano Off" or "Turning Piano Off" on the bottom line.
It stops the playback and just sits there. Usually I go ahead and
turn the unit off, so I'm not sure what happens next. I don't recall
it having an error number.... hopefully I can get a day off in the
next few weeks and have someone look at it.

For the first time, I just had this occur on my unit on Sunday. I
turned it off and back on in 15 minutes and haven't seen it again.
However, I will call the tech back out that had just tuned it on
Thursday.

Thermostat

2003-07-31 by Amanda Heidemann MD

Hello all,

I had posted a few months ago about a thermostat error
that I was getting on my new DC2A. Just wanted to
offer some follow up:

Had the Yamaha tech out, and he worked the piano over
pretty thoroughly. He thought there was a
misalignment in the sensor for the pedal, as well as
the shift wasn't working right, and that may have
caused it to overheat. It did well for a couple of
months, then started doing it again (Thermostat: Piano
Power Off error.)

Another service call, had a new thermostat soldered in
on the pedal solenoid, but still had the problem.
Then a new circuit board, checked the other two
thermostats as well. Didn't quite do it. Tech made
several calls to Yamaha and lots of people were
stumped.

Finally, had another service call, installed a new
solenoid/thermostat combo and it's been fine since. I
don't know if one or the other was defective, but I'm
glad to report that Yamaha was great through the whole
process and if anyone is looking for a good Disklavier
tech in St. Louis, I've got one.

Just wanted to give a little follow up.

Thanks!

Amanda Heidemann
