website for recording disklavier files onto Audio CD

2003-05-24 by macaw22

Hi.
I once found a website where some people were advertising a service
as follows: you record whatever songs you like onto a floppy disk
with your own disklavier, then you mail this company the disk, and
they'll play it pack on their own disklavier in a professional
recording studio, and mail you an Audio CD with your songs on it.
Unfortunately I lost the website when my computer crashed
(surprise). Does anyone know the name of this website, or know
anything similar? Thanks.

Hi Sean,

I found this :

http://www.adisklavier.com/

They will record your disklavier files on a C7 disklavier, in a classy
studio environment.
However, different disklavier will react differently (uprights do not
have the same soleno\ufffdd definition) and what's more, the dynamics of the
instrument can vary quite a lot because pianos are living beings...
So, depending on the accuracy you're aiming at, one first step would
obviously be to fine-tune the disklavier you will record on.

A Google research on "disklavier studio recording" found studios
equipped with a disklavier grand. I guess they could help you, even if
they had not thought about it before. If there is such a studio in your
neighborhood, check them for that. You could come with you floppy, and
in an hour time you get what you want - you could even check the sound
with the home tech, and change it to suit your taste. A 1 hour recording
session is something studios could benefit of. Studio grands are usually
miked, it's a simple task without need for gimmicks, and they have spare
time more than once in a while. So I guess you could easily get what you
want for a good price.

my 2 cents !

You could try "rendering" your MIDI file to Audio yourself. I tried this
with ProAudio 8 ( from www.pgmusic.com) and liked the results. I suppose it
comes down to the the quality of the "sampled" sounds built into your
computer's sound card. Mine was cheap and built into the motherboard.
Basically, you create an audio file (.wav) from a MIDI file and burn it to a
CD and play it in your stereo.

We have done this for piano teaches who own DKVs who want to make CDs for
their students recital performances.

I know someone who wanted to do something similar: record on a Clavinova
digital piano and have a studio make an audio CD using the Disklavier to play the
recording. I sent him an email. I have pasted his response below.

Happy to respond--I've been very pleased with the work of the above David
Kreisberg. I've recorded 2 CDs with his help. He's consciencious, timely,
professional, reasonably priced. To clarify one thing, I took the master CD
he sent me to a professional recording studio engineer and had it
"mastered"--ambience, effects added, etc. (The master CD I got from David
was dry--no reverb, etc.) I think David uses a 9 foot Yamaha disklavier, it
sounds wonderful to me!

You can sample his work by checking out MP3's on my web-site: The first
2 CDs listed are his work (Eagles' Wings and Quiet Classics) The url is:
