I have a new DC3A. Just wondered what others are hearing from their player mechanism. Certainly not quiet. Mine makes a bunch of clicking sounds. Is this the solenoids working? Just barely noticable. SJ

Thanks for the info. I think I'll do that. I noticed that it is mostly a couple of keys that make about 10 times the noise. Thanks Jimmy for the info. The tech is coming over this week to take a look. I hooked my PC up to the piano to drive the mechanism so I could isolate the notes that are making the "clicking" noise. There is a only a couple which are really loud and a few which are less. However, these 8 notes are significantly louder than the other 80! Also, the loudest one is the F below middle C which is played a lot! SJ --- In disklavier@yahoogroups.com, Jimmy <JimmyM@V...> wrote: > To answer all under my small wisdom. OK. The tech came out and did a procedure which was recommended by Yamaha for these types of problems. He said that they "used" to swap solenoids and/or magnets, etc. to try and fix the problem, but that this new procedure always worked. Now I will try and explain what the tech did! Groups of solenoids and magnets (the magnet is the device that moves up to strike the hammers) have a brass cover over them. I think there were about 6 of these long brass covers. Each one had several (10-15) white or black solenoid (magnets) in them. He had to remove each of these covers and line the inside with a very small strip of black tape. The tape was VERY small (1/16" or 1/32" wide). The tape was run from one end of the brass cover to the other and was positioned right next to the hole were the magnet is put into. The noise is caused by the magnet and/or solenoid hitting these brass covers. Likely from the inside, because the magnet has felt on it which would seem to protect it from hitting the outside/top of the cover. The results were VERY impressive. The entire mechanism (not just my problem keys) it MUCH quieter. Amazing! Thanks. SJ --- In disklavier@yahoogroups.com, Jimmy <JimmyM@V...> wrote: > Sj: Make sure you ask the tech to replaced the plunger (piston, shaft) whatever name they gave it into the solenoid instead of just moving them around to stop the noise, because I believe he will be back if he only rotates them around. > As far as why certain notes are doing it, it's a mystery to my tech. Maybe I should have this done. I have a key or two that seem to be a little louder than all the others. My local disklavier tech wasn't familiar with the procedure but would charge $130 an hour to have this done. Can you tell me how many hours it would take to do? I don't know if I want to spend $1000 to have this done. ;) Thanks, --Ron --- In disklavier@yahoogroups.com, "sjhart110110" <sjhart110@...> wrote: > > OK.
