Trivia question. My Disklavier control unit DKC500RW-XG has a circuit board referred to as the "EMK CTRL". The term "EMK" and/or "EMK1" is often mentioned with reference to the DSR / DCD1 upgrade. Does EMK stand for Expanded Memory Kit? Inquiring minds want to know.

I understand your confusion on this issue. I will try to explain it without making it more confusing. Your control unit model number has a "W" in the name. This indicates that the control board in the control unit has additional OPERATING memory (8 megabits verses 4 megabits). This board with additional memory is labeld EMK CTRL. On some Disklaviers, such as the PRO and certain DGT2IIXG and DGT7 pianos equipped with SmartKey, and later Mark IIXG Disklaviers, boards with additional operating memory are required. For customers that purchase the EMK1 Expanded Memory Kit, the Control board is replaced with the EMK CTRL board and an additional memory board is attached to the EMK CTRL board. I think I have still left you confused. Your piano may or may not have expanded USER memory (16 meg). To see if it does, press the FAST FORWARD and FAST REVERSE buttons at the same time. If your screen displays numbers starting with 0 and going to F, then your control unit has the EMK1 Expanded Memory Kit installed, giving you sixteen megs of USER memory, instead of one meg. Bill, Thanks for your excellent explanation. Understood. My DKC500RW XG has only 1MB of memory and does NOT have the EMK1 (expanded memory kit) installed. Okay then. I have the EMK control board and do NOT have the EMK1 upgrade. If EMK1 stands for "expanded memory kit", what does the EMK stand for with reference to my EMK CTRL board? Like I mentioned, this is a trivia question. I've figured out that the "PK" CTRL board refers to the Pedal Keyboard Control board.
