Thanks to Piano Bench. I played some of them directly from the web and they are great. Then I downloaded all of the zips for Enhanced Midi files. Then I clicked on them and nothing appeared. Is it possible that they are in a zip format incompatible with Windows XP? If so, then this is the first time I ever encountered zip files that XP could not handle. If that's the case, then maybe someone would be so kind as to repackage them and post them on this group's still empty e-competition 2004 files section in a zip format that's compatable with Win XP. (If not, I would be happy to do this for the group but I'm going away for a few days so I can't do it right away. I will have to try WinZip or one of the other ones suggested such as Stuffit Expander suggested by Piano Bench. I hesitate to do that because some programs try to take over your computer. Winzip took over my other XP machine and now I can't open zip files as easily as I can with XP on my laptop here by the piano. I kind of like XP's way of doing it. There are fewer steps with XP than with WinZip) I realize Apple is far superior to Win. Especially since I saw my nephew's new Apple. (You should see what he can do with video and audio.) However, I am still stuck down here with the masses who have to suffer with Win XP. Putting them into 3 different formats was a great idea. It should save a lot of space. The 2002 files take up 13 HD floppies. Walt pianomidifan <tomainla@...> wrote: I hope you are all enjoying the midi files from the 24 contestants of the 2004 International Piano e-Competition. I can confirm Walter Sharpe's observation that none of the zipped files can be unzipped using Windows XP Professional, and I can also confirm that these are the very first zipped files (out of hundreds that I have downloaded and unzipped using Windows XP professional automatic unzipping feature) that cannot be processed by Windows XP. The individual uncompressed midi files download and play fine, but nothing happens when one tries to unzip the zipped files. Tom Walter Sharpe wrote:

Walter: I just downloaded one of the ZIP with XP (For DKV pro) just to check. I found every thing OK, once unziped, the files came to a subdir and then the files themselves. They payed fine on my PC (I do no think it use any of the PRO info but at least it played) I could not tell any more because my DKV is an upright silent NOT a PRO. But the files and the UNZIP worked fine, so the problem shluld be somewere else. For example the same MID with DKV PRO info is 80 kb instead of 31 KB in the one I use in my DKV (Mark IIIXG?). I have a PC with WIN XP and winzip ver. 7 Have a nice day. --- In disklavier@yahoogroups.com, Walter Sharpe <wlsharpe@y...> wrote: > Thanks to Piano Bench. My WIN XP is a home version not a PRO version but I don't think this is the problem. Try to open them instead of download them, if it works then manualy copy to your hard disk. The file I tested is Adigezalzade,Murad.zip and is 224 KB before unzip and 552 KB after unzip. Be aware that windows XP (direct form microsoft) can unzip even if you do not have PKUNZIP o WINZIP installed, may be you need to install this utilities, just search the WEB for them there are plenty of places to get WINZIP trial version. --- In disklavier@yahoogroups.com, Tom Wheeler <tnwheeler@n...> wrote: > I can confirm Walter Sharpe's observation that none of the zipped files > can be unzipped using Windows XP Professional, and I can also confirm > that these are the very first zipped files (out of hundreds that I have > downloaded and unzipped using Windows XP professional automatic > unzipping feature) that cannot be processed by Windows XP. I too downloaded a e-Competition ZIP files and discovered that I could not unzip them on my computer running WinXP. From what I can determine, the ZIP files are NOT compatible with the default WinXP ZIP utility. Although the downloaded file size suggests that ZIP data is present, launching the WinXP ZIP/UnZIP utility results in NO files being presented for extraction for some unknown reason. As a test, I copied an e-Competition ZIP file to diskette and tried it on another WinXP computer that was set up to use WinZIP as the default. Everything worked fine. Thus, based on my experience, it appears that a compatibility problem exists unzipping the files using the default WinXP (Home Edition and/or Professional) ZIP utility. I suggest that anyone running WinXP and encountering difficulty unzipping the files can solve this problem by installing WinZIP, Stuffit, etc. Hope this helps. You can open the *.ZIPs with PowerArchiver. See http://www.powerarchiver.com/ Walter Sharpe wrote: > Thanks to Piano Bench.
