Disklavier

I have a Disklavier III, and I am trying to download recorded performances 
from the Yamaha Piano Soft site and the Piano-e-competition site.   I am using 
2-HD 3 1/2 inch disks.   My disks are formatted for IBM systems. I have 
downloaded the Yamaha downloading software for the Yamaha Piano Soft recordings.   Am 
  I doing everything right so far?

Of a half dozen disks I downloaded from the Piano-e-competition, only one of 
them worked when I put it is the Disklavier drive.   I now realize that I 
probably needed to un-Zip the files first, but when I do un-Zip them, I get a 
message that the disk does not have enough room.    Do I need to save the unzipped 
files to the PC and then copy them one-by-one to individual disks? The 
formatting on the Yamaha downloads is not recognized by my PC.   What is going on?   


I am well prepared to acknowledge that I have missed a step or two.   The 
classical selections available commercially are sufficiently limited that I like 
this technique of downloading concert performances.   Hence, I want to get the 
process to work properly for me.

Is there a technical reason that I have to use the 3 1/2 inch disks instead 
of CD's?   The Disklavier drive on the Series III accepts CD's.   Is not the 
data entered on the two different types of disks the same?

Good information.  Does XP work with Mark IV?  What
difference would one notice between .fil ESEQ and .mid
MIDI files on a Mark IV?

XP files will play in any Disklavier (when received as external MIDI  
data) and from floppy in a Mark II or later model.

The XP format contains much higher resolution information (contained  
in a bundle of key aftertouch and other controller messages). The non- 
Pro Disklaviers ignore this additional information. Unless you have a  
Pro, you might as well avoid the XP files because they are much  
larger--so much so that you may not be able to save an hour-long  
program on a high density disk.

I have not compared the E-SEQ files with the Enhanced Standard MIDI  
files. I was the person who prepared these, and I used the  
Disklavier's own conversion feature for creating the E-SEQ files. I  
am presuming that all of the data was kept. However, I do know that  
incremental pedal data is stored in a different way in an E-SEQ file.  
On/off pedal data is stored on the track assigned to channel 1 (where  
the notes are stored) and that incremental pedal data are stored on  
the track assigned to channel 3. In the SMF, all of the pedal data  
resides in the same track as the note data.
