Which Disklavier model?

Which Disklavier model?

2007-03-16 by rphguy2003

Greetings to all.

I have followed this group for along time and honestly when I read the
posting about the new poll being gathered, I still to this day do not
know what kind of Disklavier I own. Sadly I bought it from the local
dealer and then Yamaha took away their dealership because of customer
complaints I was told. So, since 1996 I have just played the paino
myself and only own about 15 disks that I have purchased. Never have
understood most functions of the piano as it didnt comw with an owners
manual either. Can someone answer what model I own? It was made in
1996, its a grand, and the model number is DGHIBXG. The control unit
says DKC100XG. I never know which model most of you are talking
about...sorry to be so dumb, but would appreciate some help. One day I
hope we have a new dealer in town that can help me. Also I have thought
about selling it to buy a Mark IV, but also don't have a clue what mine
is worth. Thanks, Ray Moore

Hey Ray,

It appears that you have a Mark 2 4'11 Baby Grand with the XG
controller.

You just missed the manual for your piano that was listed on ebay it
sold for like 5 bucks:

http://cgi.ebay.com/YAMAHA-DISKLAVIER-II-DGH1BXG-MAINTENANCE-TECH-
HANDBOOK_W0QQitemZ290088372832

Heres the info that I found at Yamaha:

http://www.yamaha.com/yamahavgn/CDA/ContentDetail/ModelSeriesDetailPF
/0,,CNTID%253D34275%2526CTID%253D201900,00.html

If your tired of paying for those diskettes and you own a laptop, go
get a USB Midi adapter like this one:

http://www.pcmall.com/pcmall/shop/detail.asp?dpno=153424

Than Download The VanBasco Player and the 55mb zip file that I just
posted and you'll have 4396 more songs to listen to on your G1

Yay!

=)

And it's a playback only model, so it's got no MIDI out and no recording facilities ( because it has no key or hammer sensors)

Good morning, everyone.

Ray, if your Disklavier was made for the North American market, you
should expect Yamaha Corporation of America to support you. Call
Yamaha Piano Service: (800) 854-1569 between 8:30-5:00 PST. Push 2 at
the first menu choice and 2 at the second menu choice.

Enter your serial number at this site to determine whether it was
made for the North American market....

You can look at some of the manuals on this site (PDFs for download)
to see if something is similar...chances are you could find a manual
of a similar control unit that may help you understand all of the
menu functions of your piano.

You have a MarkIIXG playback only grand piano. It has
a MIDI jacks, so you can hook up a computer and play
MIDI files from a playlist. The computer would need a
MIDI interface. Your unit can use both 2DD or 2HD
floppy disks, and plays both MIDI 0 and MIDI 1 format
files, as well as Yamaha ESEQ.

Greetings Holly,

There is a shareware program called QMIDI that runs on the Mac. It is

Thanks a lot. I found that last night during a google search and it looked like it might fill the bill. Thanks again! I\u2019ve been lazy the last couple of years and just continued to accumulate those dumb floppies. I\u2019m committed to moving everything over to my laptop....finally!

Very Good, Colin!

But before I dowmload 55 MB, I would be interested in a list that
tells something about

- title
- composer
- performer
- other details of origin
-- roll brand
-- roll number
-- year of production.

I think others would be as curious as me, too.

On the other hand, beggars can't be choosers. I for one wouldn't want
to catalog every single song in that collection! The effort of
downloading 55MB is negligible in comparison. Thanks for all your
contributions Colin!

As most of the files were lifted from Terry Smythe' s rebirth project,
you can find most of the details on his website here:

http://members.shaw.ca/smythe/archive.htm

There is an excel spreadsheet with all of this information.

Terry deserves most of the credit for this work - without the efforts he
has made in scanning I doubt this zip file would exist at all.

James

Re: [disklavier] Re: 55mb of solo piano

2007-03-28 by Spencer_Lists

Greetings Walter,

I believe Terry has a listing available. At one point I wrote a
program (mainly for his use)to dump all the text information in his
files to a tabbed text file. I have a variety of similar program that
I use for my own cataloging and will make sure the current (relatively
bug free) versions are available if anyone wants them. One program
lists all text events and track names. If text events are marked with
keywords in a manner that Terry adopted, at one point, they will fall
into the same column. One program will list all the data to an excel
file and will make hyperlinks to the file locations. You can play the
linked file by clicking on the link. The player that is associated
with .mid files will open and play the file. For the truly compulsive,
the excel sheet can be converted to an access database and serve as
the basis for a true filterable database from which you can do all
sorts of filtering and sorting.

I also wrote a program that allows you to select a bunch of file paths
from the database and play them "playlist" fashion. However it has a
serious memory leak that I can not fix because I am using a program
module that has a serious bug and can not program around it. I would
be interested in seeing someone else, who can write MIDI applications
in C, write a similar application that does work properly. My program
does work but it will eventually use up all your memory until you
reboot.

Hey Colin Thanks for the info!

I ordered the USB cable and installed the software....then I
downloaded the VanBasco Player and some midi files but they still are
not playing through the piano.
What settings do I need to look at or what have I not set up right?
Thanks for your ideas, Ray Moore
