Software Upgrade and Internet Radio

Software Upgrade and Internet Radio

2007-06-22 by Garry Neil

I just installed Version 2 of the Mk IV software. It
is a fantastic update. I also bought an external
wireless set up. It all works great and the new
internet radio feature is fantastic and very good
value for $19.99 a month or $199.99 a year. This will
really add a lot of enjoyment of the instrument.
Highly recommended. Great job Yamaha!

Now if we could just extend the range and battery life
of the controller...

RE: [disklavier] Software Upgrade and Internet Radio

2007-06-22 by Johannigman Rob

I upgraded and installed version 2.0 on my 6 month old Mark IV
disklavier earlier this week after receiving the disks from Yamaha. The
upgrade on the media center went fine. However, when I tried to
reconnect the pocket controller to get that upgraded, the trouble
started. After trying a million different ways and times I still have
not been able to get a wireless connection. I called Yamaha and they are
sending me the disks for version 1.2 so that I can do a down grade back
to 1.2 and then try to upgrade again.

Are any of our fellow disklavier friends having the same problem?

If you know what else I should try, please let me know.

Thanks,

Rob J.

Sorry to hear it. My installation was very slick and
without incident.

Re: Software Upgrade and Internet Radio

I'm sorry you had trouble with your upgrade, but sounds like your pocket controller does
work, right?

I installed v2.0 without a problem. I have a few questions for you:

(1) When you look at your pocket controller, do you see the new screens for "internet"
connection on the pocket controller?

(2) If so, are you using the recommended extra buffalo equipment to transmit the
wireless signal? It is my understanding you need these to be able to access wirelessly. I
am using a Macintosh and have not purchased the buffalo devices as yet.

(3) If you don't have the buffalo devices for wireless connectivity (one on your router
and one on the disklavier) then you can try connecting via ethernet cable from a
computer to the disklavier itself directly. This will let you try out the disklavier radio and
internet connection.

(4) You could also try out the feature of to/from folder wirelessly. This did work for me.
I was able to transfer midis to/from my computer to my disklavier harddrive folder
without a problem.

I have also seen in this forum, to retry the v 2.0 install again or call support and they
maybe able to walk you thru some of this.

Hope this helps.
Joan

Re: [disklavier] Software Upgrade and Internet Radio

2007-06-23 by George F. Litterst

Good evening, everyone.

Rob, it would be instructive for all of us to know exactly what trouble-shooting measures you have tried. Various possibilities include:

--remove and then reinstall and firmly seat the Wi-Fi card in the PRC

--do a hard reset of the PRC
(On the back, flip the little toggle to Replace Battery; remove the battery cover and battery; use the stylus to press down in the reset switch; reassemble)

--try holding the PRC close to the I/O center under the piano when trying to reestablish the connection

--turn off all other Wi-Fi devices while trying to reconnect

There is one more item as well: Check to see if the message the screen indicates that the PRC is trying to connect to a DKV device as opposed to a Temp file. If it is trying to connect to a Temp file, there is an other procedure for correcting that problem.

PianoBench

Thanks so much for your message. I tried all of these things you
mentioned and still no success. So, I am starting one more time from
scratch to see if by some fluke of nature it the sequence works this
time.

Thanks a lot for your message ... to answer your questions:

Yes, my pocket controller appears to be working fine

(1) no, I do not see the new screens

(2) Yes, I purchased the recommended Buffalo equipment

I am trying tonight to reinstall v2.0 and I just came up with the same
results again ... the green light on the media center lights up steady
bright green but the pocket controller still will not connect. Bummer
... I am on piano withdrawl ... I thought that this would be easy.

RE: [disklavier] Re: Software Upgrade and Internet Radio

2007-06-24 by Johannigman Rob

I have great news to share ... I borrowed the V2.0 upgrade disks from my
local Yamaha Dealer, Chris Henderson of Henderson Piano here in
Cincinnati, and when I used their set of disks to do the upgrade it
worked flawlessly. And, I was able to easily hook up to the internet
wirelessly using the recommended Buffalo wireless adaptors and was then
able to connect to the Yamaha Internet Direct Connection (IDC) so that
we can now listen to internet radio and directly download songs, and it
works great! So, my conclusion is that the disks that I received in the
mail from Yamaha were flawed. I will contact Freddy and send them back
to him for inspection.

Thanks for your help!

I am curious as to whether you performed the installation more than
one time using your original 2.0 discs. Normally, if a disc is
readable, everything should be fine. If something is corrupted, I
would have expected the disc to be unreadable or a particular file to
be unreadable. This makes me wonder whether the first attempted
installation simply did not finish properly for an unknown reason.

In response to your question, I tried 4 times to install V2.0 with the
original disks I received from Yamaha to no avail. Then, when I tried to
install with the disks that I borrowed from Henderson Music Co., things
went fine. Would you like me to send you the disks I was using?
Thanks,
Rob

Thanks for the update, Rob.

I think that the best thing is to send the discs back to Fredy. It will be interesting to discover what the issue was.

You may have already tried this, but did you reboot and/or reset your
handheld controller? I had the same problem at first.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
