Hi all, I recently acquired a number of QRS Pianomation CDs. I would like to convert them to MIDI. Then I can use them in my Disklavier. Does anyone know how I can accomplish this? Your help is appreciated. Mel

No, I do not have a CD drive on my Disklavier Mark II XG. I am not interested in the other instrumental parts of the disks. Yes, I would like to "rip" the piano part only. I hope someone has a solution!!! Mel Mel

If your Disklavier is an older model without a CD drive, you can add one by purchasing a Yamaha DCD-1. I don't believe any publicly-available software exists to "rip" QRS CDs to MIDI files. Even if there were, you would lose any acoustic accompaniment from the CD during that ripping process. Mark Fontana

Greetings serisky, can the Pianomation play a CD and simultaneously output MIDI for the piano part? if so, a Pianomation owner should be able to do the conversion. can a PD with a CD do the same? then a PD could be used. can you use an audio CD player to play the MIDI channel of a Pianomation CD to a PD audio input or does it only read Pianomation CDs directly? Greetings serisky, I don't have any direct experience with this. Mark suggested using a CD player on your DKV. If the DKV has an input for audio encoded MIDI from an external source, you can try connecting an audio CD player and playing the files this way. I have no idea if the DKV will correctly interpret the PM files through this connection. It will not cost you anything to try it. If you can find a PM owner, they might be willing to trade the CDs in exchange for MIDI files if they can output MIDI while playing a CD. Greetings athomik, I have a device that I have never used made by Midiman which I belive is similar to the Keyboard player. It is a MIDI tape recorder interface which was made to output audio encoded MIDI for recording on a tape. I think it might use the format that Pianocorder used. I have no idea if Pianomation is similar. There are a few switches to set options so maybe these can be used to make a compatible output. The switches are clock/duplicate high bandwidth after touch and two other switches that do something with format but the description is not clear and is a graphical representation seems to indicate suggest it is the data byte polarity. Since the interface was around before Pianomation, maybe they used a variation that this device supports? Anyone have any information on using this thing? The thing is quite old so all I could find online was this link http://atarimagazines.planetmirror.com/st-log/issue35b/008_3_ST_NEWS_MIDI_DIRECT-TO-TAPE.php Thursday, March 20, 2008, 8:30:21 AM, you wrote: > Ths Disklavier MkIII is the first model to have an analog MIDI in > connection, so this will not work on the MX100 IIXG. Good afternoon, everyone. On Mar 18, 2008, at 11:28 AM, Mel wrote: > Hi all, > I recently acquired a number of QRS Pianomation CDs. I would like to > convert them to MIDI. Then I can use them in my Disklavier. Does > anyone > know how I can accomplish this? Your help is appreciated. > The Yamaha DCD1 is an add-on box for pre-Mark III Disklaviers. It has a CD feature. If properly updated, it can be used to: (1) Play PianoSoft Plus Audio CDs In this case, the piano part is MIDI data encoded as audio on one track. The encoded MIDI data is decoded on playback and is played by the piano. The other audio track has normal audio data that is played by the speakers. and (2) Smart PianoSoft CD/Floppy Disk Combinations In this case, you put an ordinary audio CD into the DCD1 and the companion floppy into the Disklavier. The floppy contains MIDI data and drives the Disklavier; the CD is played as normal audio. The DCD1 connects to the pre-Mark III Disklavier via MIDI cables. This means that the device actually outputs MIDI data that was encoded as audio (so-called analog MIDI). Using the DCD1 you can: (1) connect the MIDI cable to a computer and capture the MIDI data in a MIDI sequencer or (2) Use the MDR record mode of a Mark II or Mark IIXG to record the MIDI data. To use MDR on a Mark IIXG: --Press Record. --Press Voice. --Turn the Rotary Dial clockwise until the screen reads, "MDR MODE REC." --Press Play to start recording (and then press Play on the DCD1). --Press Stop when you are done. To use MDR on a Mark II: --Turn off the Disklavier. --Hold down Disk-Metronome--Func/Edit and turn the Disklavier on. --Release those buttons and press Record. --Press Disk. --Turn the Rotary Dial clockwise until the screen reads, "MDR MODE REC." --Press Play to start recording (and then press Play on the DCD1). --Press Stop when you are done. I cannot state anything definitively about compatibility with QRS CDs. I own just one QRS CD, and it works fine in the DCD1. Regards, PianoBench
