There is a folder of .fil files in the 'Files' section of this forum in the 'Easy Listening' category by Yuko. It takes awhile to download the zip file. Have you downloaded that one?

Not trying to hijack someone elses thread, but I downloaded some of those, burned them on a CD, stuck it in my new MkIII C1B and I get nothing. It almost looks as though I have to put them on a floppy to play them. That would be incredibly stupid but it seems that way. Now I wonder why it has a CD, if you can't play files from it.

The Disklavier won't play a data CD with .fil files on it; you have to
encode the MIDI (*.mid) or ESEQ (*.fil) files to a special audio format
first and then burn an audio CD. Use the utility
http://dp70.dyndns.org/mid2pianocd/ and make sure you set the source
velocity profile to Disklavier.

Bill
You are correct that you can not just copy .fil or midi files to a CD and
play them on a Disklavier.

The CD player will only play .wav files with a midi encoded audio channel.
IE Yamaha PianoSoft Audio CD's or Commercial CD's that sync with Yamaha
PainoSoft Smart disks.

A floppy disk will hold 70 - 100 songs so it is no big deal to use a floppy.

You can use the MID2PianoCD program to create CD's that will play on the CD
drive. However the ,wav files are so big you can only put 10-20 songs on a CD.

If you own a Mark IV Disklavier, you can put midi files on a CD and play them on your piano. There are two types of CD options on a Mark IV audio which accompanies a midi floppy and the CD library which can play midi files from a CD.

Thanks so much for the info Mark. I suppose I should have asked more questions before I bought this version. I don't own a computer with a floppy drive, in fact we can't remember using a floppy in the last 5 years. Oh well.

Looks like I should have spent the extra money for the Mk IV, but I didn't realize the limitation, and the other features were not important to me. I am feeling pretty stupid at the moment. I will see if I can figure out how to use the utility you suggest.

Maybe you should look into one of these:

Pretty cheap...and should solve the problem.

Hello there,

Don't be too depressed :) you can pretty much grab a cheap mini laptop and use a USB to MIDI adapter. It might be a bit clunky but, this allows you heaps more options. BTW There are plenty of things that annoy me with the mark4, don't ge me started :p

Cheers,

Philip
