Does anyone know for sure if the DKC-850 will work with the Millenium (year 2000) DC3 Pro (the most orphaned Disklavier ever)? The Pro sits sort of between the MKII and MKIII (though it's mostly an ugraded MKIII in functionality) and it uses the DKC500RW controller which I believe was only used by this enhanced resolution model. I love the piano, but the controller now feels like it was made 40 years ago. I have so many work arounds to use it in my studio and I'd love to get it up to date controller-wise, but can't tell from everything I read if the DKC-850 will in fact drive this particular piano model or not.

Good evening, everyone. The DKC-850 is designed to be a complete controller replacement for the Mark IIXG and Mark III pianos, including the Pros. Specifically, it replaces these control units: DKC 500R DKC 500RXG DKC 500RW DKC 500RWXG DKC 50R DKC 55 DKC 55RCD DKC 55CDD DKC 60RCD At the moment, if you replace one of these control units, you SHOULD NOT throw the old one away as it is needed for maintenance purposes. That may change, however. The Mark II pianos (DCK100R or the built-in control unit with the rotary dial) can use the DKC-850 if it is connected by MIDI cables to the old control unit. Unfortunately, the Disklavier Radio feature is not available in this situation. Earlier models, such as the MX80, MX100A&B, and wagon grand can also use the DKC-850 connected by MIDI cables to the old control unit. However, you have to have a working floppy drive in the old control unit with a floppy inserted. Regards, PianoBench

I didn't get a response to my first try at this question so I'm reposting: Does anyone know for sure if the DKC-850 will work with the Millenium (year 2000) DC3 Pro? Hello George, From what I understand it depends on the piano. If you have a piano that is earlier than mark IIXG then it likely will connect to your old control unit via midi, and you will have reduced functionality. There is a good picture of the control unit and the connectors on the back - http://thumbnail.image.rakuten.co.jp/@0_mall/suganami/cabinet/yamaha/dkc850.jpg From pianobench's email earlier: The DKC-850 is designed to be a complete controller replacement for the Mark IIXG and Mark III pianos, including the Pros. However, it does support USB media, including USB floppy drives and USB flash drives. Cheers James

If you have a Mark IIXG or Mark III control unit, it can replace the control unit. The DKC-850 does not come with a floppy drive. If you want to connect a USB floppy drive to the DKC-850, Yamaha offers a unit called FD-UD01 USB floppy drive. Most USB floppy drives will not work with the DKC-850. Another USB floppy drive option is the IOMEGA Model 32633 USB floppy drive. This is a very inexpensive unit, but does not come with a bracket for attaching to the bottom of the DKC-850. However, if I was using a DKC-850, I would spend an evening transferring the Yamaha MIDI/ESEQ files that are on floppy to the DKC-850. The DKC-850 has 128 MB of room to store these files. So there is plenty of room in the internal memory of the DKC-850. After transferring the files, I would put the USB floppy drive in my bench, until I have additional floppy files to transfer. Does the DKC-850 replacethe current control unit? I mentioned to my dealer that I would probably wantthe floppy disk, before I read that any floppy disk drive would work, and hesaid that I would have the floppy from the current unit.
Thanks.

I have DKC-850 added to DKC100XG that is now playing what seems to be transposed or polytonal music. Anyone seen this type of thing? I have turned unit on and off and symptom is persistent so I don't think it is transpose feature on remote???
Thanks

Good afternoon, everyone. Fred, I am interested to know whether the same song plays just fine when played from the original control unit. What song is it? Is it a Yamaha – published song? Regards, PianoBench Sent from my iPhone

That’s a good question. Unfortunately I only played holiday music from 850 internal memory. I think I will try playing a floppy through old unit then the new one and compare notes. Thanks for giving me troubleshooting idea. Fred
