doepfer power

doepfer power

2005-02-09 by dragonflymodular

I've finally started along the .com/Oakley road - and I'm so impressed by the sound
and feel of the modules that I've decided to sell most of my doepfer/as gear.

The best bits remain and I'd like to make them all .com/motm format.
I can do the drilling/screen printing myself and for now a cheap conversion will use
1/4" sockets but retain the small knobs, but I'm not too hot on power issues.

Is it a simple job to make them run off a .com/motm 15v supply? I can make the
custom cable from module to supply but how do I knock it down from 15v to 12v or
will they run ok on 15v?

I'll probably have a few 12v modules so maybe a custom board that accepts a snipped
.com 15v feed and has a few ASys and doepfer sockets would be perfect...Anyone
done this? I have an old 12v supply that can be adapted for this purpose.

I think this would be a great little thing for someone to sell...

I wouldn't run them from 15V in stock form -- there are usually some
resistors that should be changed (but I would not be someone who could tell
you what they were).

I'm in the same boat, though -- I picked up a few Doepfer modules that I
will be reformatting (to 1/4" jacks), but I only have 15V power. Read on...

That's a good idea, and that's sort of what I'm doing. I got some 12V
regulators (7812 for +12V, 7912 for -12V) and I also got a Doepfer power
distribution board. I'll knock the +/-15V down to +/-12V using those
regulators, and then I'll wire that power to the distro board, along with
some decoupling caps. This hasn't been built and tested, yet, but I don't
foresee any problems.

You don't really need a PC board -- there is so little wiring involved that
point-to-point construction will be pretty easy.

That sounds perfect for me (and others I suspect) and cheap as well.
Can you post a quick photo when it's done?
I just want to make sure I get it right...

Thanks

Steven

Yeah, the only "expensive" part was the Doepfer distro board.

Sure, but don't hold your breath! I'll give this project a higher priority, though, since somebody else now cares about it. :-)

Howdy,

If you make up any dark star panels for a .com, I'd
like to get in on that. Thanx.

most doepfer modules also run with 15v. i asked dieter
doepfer about that by email. there are some modules
(like the A-155, A151, A-126, A-127, A-129/2, A-130,
A-131, A-134 and A-135.) who get some damage if you
run them with 15v. you will find all your questions
answered on doepfer.de (if you can read german -
because the faq about the power supply is only in
german).

at the moment i try to adapt a doepfer quantizer. a
single space dotcom blank panel gives the new housing.

Re: [dotcomformat] dark star

That's a 'maybe-sometime-in-the-future' - a friend might swap his dark
star with a rat pedal of mine...if he does I'll make a .com panel
straight away...

ah - I found the doepfer pages - good to know what NOT to try.

I think I'll wait for someone else to do the conversions first (ie John
hopefully!).
Maybe one of the modular companies could adapt and sell their
distribution boards for the good of the mix'n'match lot?

OK. Whether we do or do not depends only on if people order them.
That is how we add panels to our line, people ask for them. Do you
already have a dark star? AFAIK that module is out of production.

Larry,

Yes I have 3. One is a complete module that is in an
motm adapter. The other 2, I am building from scratch.
Thanx.
Rig.
