Re: More Miniwave Chat

Hi
Was that meant for the dotcomformat group?

I think it was left that Scott was happy to build a miniwave and print a panel for a great $100.
Or print a panel for free? Was that right Scott?

My kind girlfriend has just ordered my first Blacet kit as a little present...so I'll be needing a .com panel soon (after some experimenting I've decided life's too short for engraved modules).

So Scott shall I post a panel over (from UK) or do you have a spare handy?

I'd also love the Frequency Divider.

My other need is for a decent, simple mixer - 4 inputs with gain and offset on all channels.
There are so many that seem a bit too 'strange' for me - I'd like to glance at a mixer and understand immediately, not work out 'if it goes in input 4 then this happens, but input 3 makes this happen, unless input 1 is used etc...'. Just todays annoyance...

Hi Scott

I'd love one too (after I've paid for the 960 series!)...but

don't

have the experience to build a kit.

Maybe we can all get together and get a .com panel made?

I'd have some spare $$ in september.

RE: [dotcomformat] Re: More Miniwave Chat

2005-10-05 by SCOT SOLIDA

The hundred dollar price was to actually build the kit and mount it in the
panel. I am not out to make any money on this stuff. I have a kit and a
panel here to do for a Dotcommer...I will do that next week. I will keep
the screen for the panels after I do it, so that I can print them as needed.
I will put the Frequency Divider on the same screen.

As for getting the panels to me, it really doesn't matter whether you ship
them or just have them sent to me. Don't forget the knobs (and 1/4"
jacks...some of these take a lot of those. I usually have a bunch around,
though).

I should probably charge a nominal fee to cover that kinda stuff. It would
make things easier than shipping the stuff yourself. Something like the
MiniWave has four Dotcom knobs, four jacks and will require four 50K pots.
Don't know how much that would be...maybe twenty five bucks or so.

As I said, I don't want to profiteer from this. It aint a job. If you want
to supply all the stuff and send it, that's good too. If not, I can order
it. I order a lot of this kind of stuff for my own DIY projects.

Since you 'order a lot of this kind of stuff', would you be willing to
setup a 'group buy' for the pots and knobs? Maybe that way everyone
could get in on a price break? Something like the Stooge cable or
panel runs. Take orders get the total quantity, take payments and
place order for confirmed payments, ship out at cost + postage?

Well, actually, there would be no need for a "group buy", since I am not
intending to make any profit on that kind of thing...I'd just ask for the
cost of materials...The price break for ordering lots of pots is pennies,
really. And I'd probably get that anyway, just because I would piggyback
the order onto another order of my own.

Scot

I guess I was not clear. I'd like to get some pots and knobs for
other SDIY projects that I have in the works. And probably so would
some others. If there was someone that was already ordering these
types of parts, maybe everyone that wanted some could group order so
that we could all get better prices on the parts.

It did not sound like you wanted to become a board assembly line.
I've got EFM, CGS, SDIY/Breadboard, and some other Blacet boards/kits
to do. I suspect that many others on this list do as well.

I'd buy 50 knobs if they were cheaper!
And a few pots...

But who manufactures the .com style knobs? I can't find them anywhere.

RE: [dotcomformat] Re: More Miniwave Chat

2005-10-06 by SCOT SOLIDA

I did indeed misunderstand, Larry. When I say I order this stuff often, I
mean maybe once or twice a month. Sometimes I can get a lot of it locally
from a bulk dealer here in town (jacks and things are a often bit cheaper
there...but more importantly, they are readily available when I need them).
I'd have no trouble with anyone piggybacking an order from Mouser or someone
on top of my own, or even maybe taking part ina group buy. Probably best
for me if I do that when I need a good lot of stuff. I'm looking to do a
fairly large project in the next couple of months, and that might be a good
time for others to piggyback on one of my orders. As you well know, many of
the bits required to make this stuff are only needed in very small
quantities, so discounts are rare treats.

On the Dotcom knobs: I have no idea where they can be found, other than from
Roger. Obviously, he has to get them from somewhere, but I have never
looked for them. I just get them from him when I need an exact match. For
non-modular projects, I often look to the local electronics surplus
store...they have a couple of aisles of nothing but knobs, many of which are
cool vintage gubbins. I could spend a fortune collecting those things!
