this is correct.  *pattern* changes are all live and permanent.  
there's no notion
of a temporary "unsaved" pattern.  just like using a 808/909/606, IIRC. 
  however,
kit changes DO need to be saved.  if you change a kit and like how it 
sounds
but then change to another kit without saving, you will lose the 
previous kit (in
the MnM at least; the MD keeps an "undo" kit for undoing this action).
