Re: [elektron] Using the MD Live

2006-04-16 by Chris Stammen

Andy, interesting!
I'm using the same kind of setup, but with an MPC-1000..
Do you use your MPC as a main sequencer? I've tried that, but there were
some problems doing so. I'm using my MD as main sequencer now. The
problem is that the MPC sends programchanges each time it loops. This
will reload the selected patch of the synths connected (2xMS2000+virus)
- therefor the sequence it plays is a little delayed and it sounds like
a little click at the beginning. Also, the tempo's of the sequences are
most of the time different, so I'd like some external gear to act as a
main clock for all MPC sequences.
Now that I've got the MD as a main sequencer, it all works fine: The MPC
starts playing when I push play on the MD. This way I can make a
complete song in renoise, render the song to wave, cut them out in
soundforge, load them into the MPC, split the samples to multi-programs
with the chopperfunction, get crazy with MPC song mode, and add a hell
lot of wicked beats with the MD, adding up synth voices with the M1-M4
channels of the MD which midi-out stuff to the external synths.
Layers enough, I would say..
then only 1 problem remains: Saving the work... (and don't forget to
write on little notes which patterns match to which patches)..
(that, btw, is the only thing that stinks)
