New machine?

New machine?

2005-04-11 by Graham

So, who attended the Sounds Expo then? What was the big new release that we
were all waiting for?

Can't get on the the Elektron webpage, so I guess it's been overloaded....

Cheers

iirc, elektron said that that doesn't start until 04.14.

so maybe their web services have simply gone offline for a few.

Ahh...that'll be why then! :-) For some reason, I thought it was last
weekend.

Still, the Elektron homepage has vanished.

I saw the new machine, it's the Ultra Wavestation. You
can make any waveform with it and it has a sequencer
too wit fx

Are you serious? I don't understand, like a Wavetable synth?

Or are you pulling our joystick?

i gree a wavetable synth/seq would be fun, but dont you know the one
about the boy that cried "wavetable sequencer"!?
he ended up saving all his pennies for the new elektron sampler! after
all, how else to incorporate the *real* analog sound into an all
elektron rig?

Re: [elektron] New machine?

2005-04-13 by Automatic Panic

i think it's a sampler too since Spektralis has their
awesome machine now, Elektron is next.

If its done wrong, an all digital Wavetable Synth is about the worst
thing that can happen to you. Look at the Waldorf XT synthesizer.
Man, its pure trash. No discussion.
Except you live in the 80ies mentally and you feel attracted to germ
free environments.

Noone needs a more editable or advanced wavetable synth to make good
music and become a happy person, than the one inside the monomachine.
Monophonic with a rough filter, thats all you need from wavetable
sythesis.

And if you want more flexibility, just get the NI FM7 Software,
you can spend all day screwing around the parameters,
painting new waveform like a crazy physician,
without having made one tone of music in the end of the day.

A sampler shaped like the machine drum would be
great...hopefully not some rack mount nonsense.

i disagree with flo's evaluation of the microwave xt, but i
concur, here. i hold out hope for something radically
different and with all the character i've come to expect
from elektron.

The reason the Microwave XT is such a great monster synth is BECAUSE
of its trashiness. Have you ever played with one?

I own one, and the filters are a force to be reckoned with. The
waveshaping filters are unbelievably nasty and can generate sub-bass
patches that will torture your woofers.

Another thing: the XT has a huge frequency range - much broader than
other digital machines. The bass goes as low as 7Hz. You can
easily destroy your speakers if you get carried away.

Re: [elektron] New machine?

2005-04-13 by marc davidson

Hi,

I agree, the microwave is a superb synth.

Don't knock it please... try knocking the novation stuff or the roland
groove boxes.. ( for trashy filters ! )

Waldorf wavetable synthesis is immense and capable of fabulous sounds.

The XT has a tremendous frequency range and offers a completely
different

soundset compared to the normal 2-3 oscillator subtractive stuff.

The XT is dead long live the XT !

Vive la difference !

Waldorf fan..

RE: [elektron] New machine?

2005-04-13 by AudioPan

I have had a v.1 for several years and for certain things, there's nothing
quite like it.

I use it free-form and multitrack it b/c I'm not good enough with it to
always produce usable sounds.

Roland Groove boxes are cool. I have an MC-505. I don't use it for making
"grooves", though. I make weird sounds, pads and arps, so I use the
arpeggiator a lot, while tweaking the knobs. It rocks.
Just stop using stuff for it's "intended purpose" and do other things with
it...

mutron, or mutator? i'll presume the latter.

you'd really have to describe what kind of sound you're
trying to achieve before anyone could answer that question
in good conscience. even then, it'd be a comparison of two
tools that complement, rather than replace, each other.

you should try to find people with them and listen for yourself, because, ultimately, your ears will be your best guide.

yeah the mutator haha

I want a sound that is rough and also moog like. I
wanna process my synths through it and get results
that sound like warm synths.

That doesn't sound like the Sherman, the Sherman is more rough in a
harsh/nasty way than a warm way.

maybe its hardware at all.
They say "come check out the next step in the history of elektron".
For a lot of manufacturers, that now means software.

So perhaps this 'UW/UltraWav' is a vsti??

A retro Polyphonic SID/MM wavetable synth/sequencer?

you never know.
But, personally I hope its hardware because it always sounds better in
the end.

Hah, I had a nightmare couple of nights ago, that it was a sofsynth! I
was sooo disappointed. Nothing soundwise wrong with softsynths, its
just I dont bother to work with computer screens and boring million-
feature sequencers...

I hope you're wrong... i don't need another "incredible and full of
potential" soft synth. Here are a lot of good soft synth, a lot of
them seems incredibly full or promise, and a complete year isn't
enought to test them all...

All i want is hardware from company like elektron, wiht a original
point of view, and a certain type of sound.

Sorry for my english...

Don't think that they ever will produce something like a cheap VSTi!
Software is nothing you can touch or play around like something with
real knobs, pads etc.
I elieve in elektron, that if they produce somethinmg new, it will be
something special in sound and design and that it will reach a high
"must-have-factor" like it was befor with eacu of there three tools.
In case that i bougth everything of them, i will buy also the next one
unheard or unseen....

what if it's some unique kind of control surface that
captures Elektron's unique human interface and leans
tighter on sequencing than just production control?

I think UW stads for UnderWare. It's a controller
that goes under your pants and turns your dick into a
joystick for playing Atari games.
Seriously, I hope it's a tiny keyboard, like a
MachineDrum box with 25 keys in front, and a "Hartman
Neuron" type of synthesis, where you fuck up samples
and then sequence them. YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
