A friend just pointed me to this site. http://musicthing.blogspot.com/2005/04/machinedrum-userwave-worlds-most.html He asked me if I was going to spend the cash on it, as if it was a waste of money. True, if you look at it from the view point that it is just 2mb of sample space, then it is the worlds most expensive sampler. However, when you look at what you can do with 2mb of space along with the sound engine, and elektron user interface then it is enticing. -M

I hope it sounds good in the end, my wish is that it's like there is an EMU sp-12 in the MD, then I will buy one.

just posted my responce to the blog... "I own the machinedrum, as well as the monomachine. I am super happy with both of them. I can honestly say that if I was forced to sell all my gear, they would be the 2 last items to go. What I enjoy so much about the two are: SOUND! SOUND! SOUND! Rock solid build quality Super reliable extremely easy to use interface Awesome customer support Huge web community Sound creation is a snap Super easy to create a grove. Cant find a better hardware sequencer on the market. You get what you pay for... why else do you think the Elektron has a cult following? The Userwave is not just a sampler, it is a full blown machinedrum, with 2MB of storage. This 2MB is exactly what some users needed. (some were seeking the ability to use a sampled snare, HH, kick...) Don't forget not all the details are known about the Machinedrum Userwave. There might be a USB storage device?!" -M --- In elektron-users@yahoogroups.com, "finite_sf" <finite_sf@y...> wrote: > > A friend just pointed me to this site. > > http://musicthing.blogspot.com/2005/04/machinedrum-userwave-worlds-most.html

I, for one, am very exited about upgrading my MD and the possibilities of the UW. My first ever piece of gear was an Ensoniq EPS-16+ and I used to do whole tracks with very little sample time, so I'm sure that adding 20 seconds of sample time to a full blown Machine Drum is plenty. Just thinking about the possibilities of loading vocal samples and running them through that kick ass sequencer (AND RETRIGGERING THEM TO DEATH!!!!!) makes my mouth water. Thank you Elektron!!!!!! Now, if only I didn't have to send away my MD to get it upgraded!!!! I use to make tracks with a mpc2000 with 2mb of ram only. That was the ONLY thing I had besides a computer and some floppy disks to move samples to it. ----- Original Message -----

I used to make tracks with an akai s900 (ugh!) then an original model EPS. tell me about the pain.. this is a great upgrade for the MD, provided it doesn't cost one of my arms to get it ;) chrism

If you have a VST capable sequencer (are there still non existing ? ;>)) then try out Microtonic. www.soniccharge.com. This is a hell of a pattern based drum computer based on synthetic generated sounds. I own it and it comes close to MD in some aspects...except the price which is about 1/20th. I can send you some samples I made with it, and compare them to MD. You won't notice the difference. But the MD has still a lot more possiblities. Full respect to both machines !! regards

I have both and love both. but the MD has a MUCH larger sonic pallete and due to the sequencer is capable of so much more, not to mention the fact that it's hardware and you can interact with it much better than you could using uTonic and a MIDI controller. that said, uTonic is *well* worth the money and I'm very happy that I own it. it's miles short of being a replacement for the MD, but for simple drum synthesis its quite an excellent buy. I often use uTonic when sketching out tracks, but then go to the MD when I want to get serious about my drum tones; there's just so much more there... just my $.02 :-) [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
